Looking for a GTA gunsmith to replace the rear sight on my M&P. Just need it removed/replaced to put in a new striker block/spring.

I've tried punches, but it won't budge and I don't want to damage the slide or the sight.

So, anyone in the city handle restricted stuff?

TacOrd is the place you want. They have a website.

If Casey has the time he is worth the drive. Otherwise, give Target Sports a call. If they can't(for whatever reason) they should be able to give you a contact closer. Don't forget to call in for a TATT.

if he is changing sights, all he has to do is take off the slide and take it to whoever going to do the work.
no ATT needed.

I'm not familiar with the M&P but go to forums specific to that gun and see what others have done.
A gunsmith will likely just hit it harder than you feel comfortable doing yourself.
Unless there is a specific trick or screw that you don't know about, which is why I suggest going to an M&P forum to learn about your firearm.

If all else fails, Casey is great to deal with.

Edit.
Ok, I was bored and just did a google search.
the sight dovetails are tapered. you have to push the rear sight towards the ejection port side of the slide.
There is a spring and small nylon washer under the slide that work with the safety plunger, so be careful not to have those fly in your face or lose them.
I suggest putting a plastic bag over the end of the slide so if/when the spring comes out its contained.

Really, secure the slide in a vise, get a brass punch that is large enough to take up enough surface area on the rear sight to spread the force and not mark it, and have at it.
Its what a gunsmith will do.

Yes, good point...
Op if you want to try it yourself as pauls suggested leave your "new" sights in the freezer overnight. They may slide in easier. Frozen=shrink

OP, you did remove the set screw - right? and as mentioned it will only come off one way. Easy Peasy.

Yep, removed the set screw entirely and banged at it (the right direction) for a while, but it didn't budge. If it had moved a mm even, I'd have kept going.

I'll try putting the entire slide in the freezer, to see if that'll loosen it a bit.

Was able to get the sight off really easily once my brass drift punch came (thanks, Brownells!). Came off in a few taps, and the new striker block went in easy.
