When I got my SVT-40, the refurbished finish on it was absolutely shot.
I understand the whole concept of the value of military surplus rifles and I have a few in the condition I picked them up in. But I bought my SVT-40 to shoot, not to cradle and fawn over it in my basement.
I stripped the flaked, almost gone shellac finish off the stock and got it down to the original birch the best I could without hacking at it. 5-6 layers of hand rubbed boiled linseed oil later it has now become my favorite rifle in my set
I'll snap some pictures when I get a spare second.

I don't get it. SVT's don't look badass enough?
The conversions only superficially resemble a Dragunov, which doesn't have the historical significance, and isn't a highly regarded sniper rifle. I'd just get a repro scope and mount for the original gun and rock the WW2 coolness.

I also put a repro scope and mount on my Tula 1941 with the sniper notch, but i just bought an original scope this weekend on ebay, 1941 dated, excellent cond made at the Kharkov factory. I'm still hunting for the original scope mount, cost alot to scope a SVT, even with repro stuff, but its part of the hobbyIt is your rifle, do what you like
And considering he is talking about making a new stock for his existing rifle, what is the issue?. An example If I have a mercedes gullwing and I chose to put seat covers on it to protect the origional seats what is the problem?. The dragunov stock is an excellant design. And by building a new stock he can mess about with bedding till he feels satisfied. No harm no foul

Nah, that's a late production model. You can tell by the muzzle brake.
I do not see a gun in that picture still no matter how long I look at it. ......
