Suggestions needed....

Nosler partitions or accubonds, or Barnes bullets work very well in the 270 for moose and deer. I use the accubonds for deer, and partitions for moose in my 270, I am sure there are other bullets that work as well but in the 270 for moose I prefer to stick with what I know works.

Up until a couple of years ago, one of the more popular calibres I had not had was the .270 Win. ;)I've since corrected that deficiency and now have two:p. A model 3000 Husqvarna and a Sako AIII.

I haven't used either in the field but hope to correct that before too long. Handloading for them, to get in line with todays technology and possibly to minimize meat loss from lead fragmentation, the bullet I've settled on is the Barnes 130gr TTSX.

+1 for the Partitions. They can be a bit finicky to get to shoot dimes but there is no question they do an exceptionally good job of knocking stuff down. I shoot 150's in my .280 and I know many, many guys using 150's in their .270's for moose. These are happy guys! I have no experience with Accubonds, so can't comment at all.

I tend to stay away from the Barnes, as i think they're almost too tough. While I haven't lost any animals because of the small(ish) holes they produce, I prefer something that upsets a bit more. Just personal preference is all. However, if I were way up north where there are big brown guys that could make a mess of me, I don't know that I would go with anything else.

In recent years, I have been trying Hornady Interbonds and GMX's. Kinda partial to Hornady. Accuracy wise, I'm very happy with these bullets in .300 WM, .300WSM, .308, & .280 (don't own all these, just load & test lots for friends). In my personal experience and feedback from friends, terminal performance has been pretty darn good on moose, elk, and mule & whitetail deer. I can't believe the prices of the Interbonds now, though.

Tough to go wrong with the Partitions unless your gun really doesn't like them.

I shoot accubonds religiously from my .270, they hit hard and knock everything down I have pointed at. I wasn't overly impressed with the partitions however, I got my deer but it only seemed to leave a small wound track straight through, got both lungs and heart at 340 yards( used range finder before shooting). I think partitions would work better on thicker skinned game.

Hornady 140 gr BTSP interlocks - the cheapest bullet they make and have shot deer and moose with them. Work well at about 2800 fps

Used to use W785 but that powder is not around anymore, so now use IMR 4350. Actually just about any powder I have tried worked ok

I just started loading for my new 270 hunting rifle. I have bought into the lead free cool aid as it makes sense to me so I am going to take a swing at the 130 TTSX barnes bullets. That said I would not hesitate to go to a partition in the 150gn range for moose, time tested medicine for Bullwinkle. +1 on both options.

....and yet all I use are Barnes Triple shocks and TTSX bullets and love their deadly terminal effects - and precision.

Yes, I've had guys tell me the same thing but for some reason, I was never able to get the Barnes to shoot as well as I wanted. Mind you, that was long ago - before I knew what I know now and I'm far more fussy about handloads than what is necessary for normal range hunting.

Partitions are also a bit tough for deer but will expand a bit more than Barnes. I think a lot of it depends on where you prefer to hit 'em. Through the shoulders, the tougher bullets work really well on deer but if you want to hit the heart/lungs to minimize meat damage, you may be better off with a more frangible bullet. A moose, when hit just right, will die from little more than heavy buck from a slingshot. Well, not quite but almost.

I'm sorry I don't have any actual load data for your .270 but yes, you'll still have to figure out what you & your gun like. There are lots of good bullets out there - pick one you like & go!;)

Both the Partitions and Barnes TTSX & TSX open easily and provide more than enough liquefaction of lungs on a perfect broadside shot on deer while retaining enough weight and momentum to dig deep into the vitals of a moose when required.

Here is a typical TSX entry on a broadside deer. (.30 calibre 168gr. TSX launched at ~2900 fps ; ~2500 fps imact velocity)

No, the bullet just clipped the skin on the back of leg and then was a perfect through and through taking out both lungs. On this particular deer not even the rib bones took a direct hit.

Between my daughter and myself we have taken over a dozen moose, deer, and bears using the Triple-shock bullets at distances from 40 feet to 400 yards and I can guarantee that they open very easily. I think a lot of stories we hear about bullets "not-expanding" are from guys who lost animals and blame the bullets rather than their shooting skills for the loss.

Try Reloader 22 with a 150 gr Nosler Partition.
I used 56.7gr for 2940fps in a 22" Browning.Always shot under MOA and the brass lasted quite a while too.
The 140gr Barnes TXS worked pretty good too but I didn't like the tiny hollowpoint.

I am currently using accubonds on deer, and partitions on moose, I have no doubt either bullet would work fine for both, but since I like as much diversity as possible, that's my current personal choices. I am going to use Barnes in both the -06 and the 325 next year just to change things up a bit. Unless I end up liking Matrix bullets a lot and end up using them on both deer and moose. For my elk and mulie hunt next fall I will stick with partitions as I want to be totally confident in my bullet choice for a hunt I don't get to do much anymore.

Has anyone had much experience with Noslers e-tip? I have never tried that one yet.
