I put together some hand loads for my XCR (55gr VMAX and Varget) and was getting about 1.5-2" MOA at 100m with a 1-4x scope. Next time out I plan on slaping my Sightron 6-24x onto the XCR to see if groups tighten up due to a smaller POA. I'm more familiar with "precision rifles" and how to accurate them with pillars and bedding etc. What is out there in terms of techniques to accurize black rifles? Any tricks for the XCR? I'll be perfectly happy with 1MOA, maybe I can get there with hand loads, maybe not.

Hmmm I've heard that somewhere before. I think there was a guy that used loctite to keep his trigger in the "on" position and he ended up with a legal full auto machine gun. He just needed to put in a new clip.
In all seriousness, if one were to weld their gas block to the barrel to eliminate any play it may increase accuracy. M14s can be accurized this way from what I understand.

I think going with a stainless match barrel may work. I also think part of the problem is the hokey way the barrel is held with a set screw. If you could make it so the barrel is permenantly attached instead of that set screw it might help
Make sure you can get all the play out of the upper/lower. I layed some hockey tape in the pinch area behind the pivot pin. 2 little strips 1/4" wide was enough. Now it takes just a little squeeze to close it down and latch it.
If the gas block is tight it aint going anywhere, but if it is a concern slide it off, apply a little sleeve retainer and itll be as close to welded as it gets, yet removable if really neccesarry.

Mine likes 52 gr. bullets, as well, I've seen some good groups with 55 grainers, 1 moa is doable, but a tack driver the XCR is not. The truth of the matter is, most semi platforms perform about the same, varmint AR's, or accurised Ar's etc. are sub moa. It is what it is, so enjoy it for what it is. Oh by the way, after a whole whack of rounds from my already used XCR, I still haven't lock- tited anything, tightened up the gas block on my 6.8 barrel once, I also torque my barrel when I tighten it, so far no problems.
now you all have got me wondering and combining what I know about the m14 system to my xcr.
Heres my thoughts:
1) using a system like a new op rod spring guide- fully rounded to the ID of the spring, to eliminate play (like m14), only for the back of the gas system in the XCR.
2)an adjustible three or four point barrel tension system- with four screws that touch the barrel just behind the gas block in a "star pattern"
3)unitizing the gas tube with the gas block.
If someone near with an XCR me has a drill press and some spare time, I have an upper that I am willing to do some experimenting with. For the good of CGN and fellow XCR owners!

I've already started a conversation with Jason at Anderson arms, regarding some "tuning up' on my XCR. He just bought one a while ago, so give us a few weeks and we'll see what's up. The multiple attachment points are part of the fix. Good call on the op rod guide na1lhbom, I never thought about that. I'll bring it up to him.

I know ATRS was doing XCR rebarrels at one point but they needed a donor barrel in order to salvage the barrel extension. If RA were to supply barrel extensions I suppose that would be a big leap forward but I'm not sure what the story is on that.
I haven't had a chance to get back to him yet, but the last ime I talked to him he was doing a ton of renos, so it's looking like sometime in the new year. Which trigger do you have? Mines actually pretty good.
I may be wrong but it was my understanding that the XCR uses an AR-15 trigger group. If that is the case there are several aftermarket triggers (geissele, Timney, McCormick, etc.) that should greatly improve trigger pull which normally reduces group size.
