Is it worth paying a bit more for a Wilson Combat shotgun over an 870 Police? I know it's essentially the same gun, but is everything Wilson Combat does to these guns (especially finish) worth it?
People say the Armor-Tuff finish these guys perform on 870's is the best and most rustproof finish on the market. Wonder how true that is.
Anybody here has a Wilson Combat shotgun?

Are you planning on salt water operations? no? then you will be find with the police ;)

But in saying that the wilson is a nice gun and ethier are a good choice.

No, and I'd start looking at getting a Benelli semi if I was going to spend Wilson 870 money.

There's also the nighthawk. I can see the argument that your paying too much for what they do to them, but I can't say I regret my purchase. I've even taken it trap shooting and had a blast.

Casey at Tac Ord can do all that stuff to your gun and he's local and a very good guy. Lots of people on the forum have guns done by him. I've got 2 870 P's that he's worked on. Excellent quality - I'd put my guns up against either of the other options any day of the week.

Gave my M4 to my dad because he shoots 3 gun.... is retired, and wanted one.

I'm going to call Ithaca directly, and see if their 8 shot defense Model 37 pump for $599.99 here in Canada shoots like the old Ithaca pump did... ie. Hold the trigger down and keep pumping, and it would fire. :)

Owning 2 M4, i can hardly justify buying such an expensive pump as good as it is, at the end i will always go back to my M4... JP.

It's built on an Express 870 for crying out loud. You could replicate one for a lot less money (including the finish), even if you started out with a new Police model as the donor gun. No way are these guns worth over $1500.

I was just looking at the Proffessional and noticed they non longer cut the barrel flush with the end of mag tube. Wonder why that is? Probably trying to replicate the stupid look made when Remington lengthened the 18" barrels to 18.5". Looks hideous, I'd expect it to be flush on a $1500 custom shotgun, especially since they're cutting the barrel already.

The Remington Steal package is a pretty good deal, but it's not like we can send our guns down there for work.

So true and it had to be said........$1500 is a friggin total joke........like buying a Fierro with a Ferrari body kit on it.

Had one guy on the forum totally spit in my face regarding my comment about my $300 Dominion Arms Grizzly being on par functionally with the Wilson Combat gun......took me 2 hours of fine tuning and I've got an awesome workidng gun that I've compared directly with an 870 Express and 870 Tactical an performance wise its right along side both of them with no difference between them.

Oh well some folks just gotta stroke their ego off about buying super tacticool over priced brands and spit in other peoples faces saying mine is best and your is crap.

Here's the post from the Wanstalls thread.

Any Dominion is a peice of turd compared to a real 870.... trust me, ive worked over dozens of them trying to make the run as smooth as my express and they just arent as good. Dont get me wrong, the dominions are a good gun, but they do have kinks and issues that the 870's dont, they are a work horse and a fun gun and that its..... I dont care what anyone says, they are not as good as an express, let alone a Remmy police or a Wilson Combat, and after all the years of dealing with these imported shotguns, I'll never own another one, and I would never depend on one for safety.

As for the Wilsons, I'm a pump guy and I'd buy one in a second if I had the cash. If you dont like the price, dont buy it.... and if you think that your dom is just as good, thats your opinion. Its wrong!!! But your entitled to it..... so have a wonderful life with your awesome imported $300.00 boomstick and I'll safe my coins and buy a real, well put together, reliable firearm that I can depend on.

The value is there.... you just have to open your eyes and know where to look.

My $300 gun performs top notch and I've only put maybe $200 into it with accessories overall and spent less then $20 giving it a paint job, scope mount i

Yes and no

The M2 is not a combat shotgun and will not be as rugged as a Rem 870P, Moss 590A1 or Benelli M1, M3, M4

Good point as far as ruggedness goes, but M2 is a nicer built gun when compared to 870's, 590's etc, better fit and finish in my opinion, not as rough around the edges if that makes sense. :D

Totally agree

There are afew small Neg's you should know about the M2 though "I have owned the Tactical version"

-Very few stock options
-Must modify the bolt to be able to ghost load
-Shell latch does not stay up and the cut out bites your thumb
-You can not put too much stuff on the gun or it will cuase it to short stroke
-sling mount on the Ext tube rattles

pistol grip with a crazy long LOP or comfort tech stock

Urbino makes a short LOP stock for the M2 but I think the way the recoil pad mounts is junk

IMO, even the standard 870P is getting to the point of being quite expensive for what you get.

If I had been more knowledgable at the time I bought my 870P new in 2003, I would have went vintage used and ended up with gun that was both much better built and cheaper than anything Remington has produced in a long time.

Other than maybe the Ithaca 37s {if they ever come out with a removeable barrel tactical model} I can see where any basic short barreled pump made today is worth more than $600 tops, and that's coming from a guy for whom price is a low priority.

Yeah the 870P is on par with a Mossberg 590A1 but cost way more

I just got my mossberg 590A1 18.5" and I got to say its one hell of a gun. My only two complaints is the safety is in a ackward place when you have the gun is shouldered and its heavy.

Remember a 870P and wingmaster are a much better quality then a Express or tactical. The Mossberg 590A1 is a much better quality then a 500 or 590 and both 870P and 590A1 are equal

Now benelli is high quality no matter what you buy, but some are more rugged then others

I have owned 870p, express, wingmaster, supernova, M2, M4 and Mossberg 590A1 so if you want the low down on any of thoughs guns let me know.

I was thinking of buying one of those Wilson Shotguns and wondered the same thing, what are they using as a donor. Could you please show me a credible link backing up your statement. Thanks.

I have been building shotguns like this for many year, as have a few people like me on CGN
we all say, you cant buy a good shotgun it has to be built.
I have a few 870 police shotguns, as much as they are the best product remington offer in the way of an 870, companys like wilson, nighthawk (all ex wilson staff) ect offer a much better product, somthign that has to be hand finished and tested as each gun will need different things done to it to make it a finished build.
On the fact that most custom built 870,s are built on the express not the police, thats easy to explain.
With all the work that gets done to a custom build from the likes of wilson or nighhawk, there is no need to spend the extra money on the police model , as the custom guns is going to get polished, honed tweaked, refinished , ported, rechabered , back bored and almost all stock and sights changed.
Little things like non MIM parts are cheap enough that its better to buy them and install on the express then pay the extra for the police.
