Gadget: Magnum or no? Sights or bead? Cyl or modified? Wood or synthetic? Blued or park'd? All affect value substantially.

Parkerized - raised bead sight - modified choke - synthetic stocks - hand guard - all matching factory gun - receiver marked 870P 3 inch magnum.

As far as I have known all Police are Police Magnum parkerized shotguns and the modified choke came after their policy change . Barrels were going for $400 alone . They are more costly than Exxpress Magnums for a couple of reasons . Metal trigger group , heavy duty springs , deburred internals and parkerized .

Nope...they came both blued and park'd, milled or cast trigger groups, 2 3/4" or magnum configs, different site options, at least 6 stock options, etc. etc. etc. "870P" means about as much as "ford pick up". It tells you what it is, but not what it has.

(I have three...and another in the works)

IMO a mint magnum with cyl bore/bead and cast trigger group should pull 800 with nice walnut max.

The question arising though is why a guy who thinks he knows so much about the 870P would need to even start a thread like this?

Simple .....I want a Sig 716 and I want to know if I can afford one . I know "so much" 'cuz I've been a legal aged gun nut for 44 years . Does that answer your question ? My receiver says Police Magnum !

Im just curious why you'd ask the question and then tell everyone who says less tha a thousand that they are wrong...?

The FACT is that your gun, as equipped, is as vanilla as they come and is worth a maximum of 800...likely 700 would be more realistic, 650 if you want it sold fast.

Gadgets gun was not the same as yours.

You might not *like* the answers you've been given, but that doesn't change the fact that they are accurate.

I'm not being a :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug: disturber....maybe you can point out ANY valuation under a grand that you agreed with? Hell, you felt the need to "educate" me about how it's different from the 870 express.

They USED to pull a premium due to rarity...just like 14.5" ARs....now (thanks to both the aftermarket and importers like tacord bringing them in for 900 bucks new) that it isn't the case anymore.

But hey, list it for what you want...and if they line up for that kind of money, send a couple my way, I'll sell em a couple of mine.

Wilson combat 1 shot extension is about $100 . Tac Ord is not affiliated with Remington BUT I didn't see any factory 14 inch barreled 870 Police on their website . Remington doesn't sell anything shorter than 18 " to civilian markets especially in Canada . Never handled a Mossberg but Remington has its share in police gun rooms for a reason .

He is affiliated with there LEO and Military line not their civy line. Call and ask, thats where I got mine along with 4 LEO factory top folders. Just because its not on his site doesnt mean its not available. the plus 1 extension doesnt add much in the way of value. A mossberg is worth more then your 870 because the mossberg was a limited production as suppose to the 870 which is still being made and available in the country.

ill never understand why people ask what a fair price is then jump down everyones throat when they get a dose of reality.

It's really simple . I want to hear from guys like Gadget and Russel_D who actually have possessed similar shotguns . I don't want it run down by guys who have Mossbergs . I don't have a f..n Mossberg !!! I have a Remington with Remington parts .....simple . I don't care what a Norinco barrel is worth . This NOT a Norinco . I don't want to hear from people who have no appreciation for collectible things . By the way that Wilson Combat extension IS worth a $100 . Why do you think Wilson's shotguns are worth $1500 ? Don't worry I don't plan to ask anything again 'cuz this website has its share of wannabe's and liberals . I've been around guns long enough to know who has a grasp of what he's talking about . This query is now finished .

It's worth $1150. Easy. It's a Remington, right? Not Norinco... Got it...

$1200 and it's gone in an hour. I mean, a tricked out scattergun technologies border patrol model is like $1300, so yours is EASY $1250. Maybe $1400 for the right buyer!

Ah but what does anyone on here know?

this thread delivers. Sgt. Slaughter: like I said, this shotgun is worth more to you then it is to the market. Maybe keep and treasure it cos your sure as hell not going to get the thousands of dollars your precious remington isnt worth. If you were such an expert you'd already know what its worth, what to ask and have it sold by now. 14" 590s go for $900-$1000 due to their rarity. Your 870p is not nearly as rare. Further bringing down its value is Norinco. I can buy a similar shotgun for $350 new so only die hard Remington fanboys or anti-china haters will pay the extra cash for basically the same thing.

Before reading this thread I would have said its worth $1000-1200. That would be based on the cost of buying a new 870P for around $700, second hand Remington 14" barrel for $400. Combine that with how hard the 14" are to come by and perhaps you could get even closer to the $1500 mark. Scattergun Tech shotguns are nothing more than gussied up Express shotguns with a couple of accessories and a nice paint job, yet they cost over $1500, all without the desirable Police Magnum stamped on the side.

If Tacord has a steady supply of new factory 14" Remingtons for $900, well that would affect the market a fair bit and make yours worth less than that unfortunately. Barrels with rifle sights may still command a premium to collectors because they no longer make them that way.

Norincos don't affect the price of the Remington in any way. I can get a 14.5" Norc AR for $700. does that make the 14.5" Colt cheaper? Hell no. People buy the Colt for the name and the quality associated with it.

Mossbergs are a different beast and have their own collector market, they may be harder to come by but does that make them worth more? I'm not sure, I don't think the demand is anywhere near what it is for Remingtons, which would affect the value obviously. They still make these BTW, won't find it on their webpage but then again, either is the 870P. The 870P is on their LEO/MIl page, not their normal retail page.

Wish I could find a 14" 870P for $760, you definitely did well on that deal. Rifle sights too, nice. I have a 14" Rem Cyl barrel, wish it had rifle sights instead of the Trak Lok. One day I'll have Casey install the factory rifle sights, probably give it the Vang Comp treatment too since it's Cyl bore.

Aren't all 870P marked Police Magnum? I thought that any of the older 2 3/4" guns were simply marked Wingmaster?
