Thoughts on the Enhanced ACR?

I think its a great idea! You will want to swap out to the basic or an aftermarket handguard though.
 
Sounds like a good idea buying yourself a christmas present, but haha you wont get one till at least 2014 christmas with the way things are down in the states now.

Uhm....not so much.

Better check into that, you can only cut a barrel down to 18.5 inches period.

You can instal a factory made barrel that is shorter, but this is a universal rule covering all firearms, even .22's.

Confusing, illogical, yes, but definitely the gospel rule - might be an exception if a licensed gunsmith does it, like Dlask, not 100% certain.

Definition of a prohibited firearm

According to the Criminal Code, a prohibited firearm is:

A) A handgun that
-has a barrel equal to or less than 105 mm in length, or
-is designed or adapted to discharge a 25 or 32 calibre cartridge, but does not include any such handgun that is prescribed, where the handgun is for use in international sporting competitions governed by the rules of the International Shooting Union,
B) A firearm that is adapted from a rifle or shotgun, whether by sawing, cutting or any other alteration, and that, as so adapted,
-is less than 660 mm in length, or
-is 660 mm or greater in length and has a barrel less than 457 mm in length,
C) an automatic firearm, whether or not it has been altered to discharge only one projectile with one pressure of the trigger, or
D) any firearm that is prescribed to be a prohibited firearm











By cutting the barrel less than 18.5", you just created a prohibited weapon which you can not own.
Only short barrel allowed is manufacture made ones.
 
'again incorrect. If it is non-restricted you can cut it down to 18.5" an no shorter. If you want to make it restricted it would need a new barrel, you cannot cut down the original. IF a barrel started as shorter than 18.5" to start than you again cannot cut it down even though it remains restricted. The law requires that you install a new manufactured barrel. is the law stupid, yes but thats what the law is.

That was my original thought too that if a gunsmith did it, it would be ok. After asking some gunsmiths i found that was not the case and all said they do not cut barrels below 18.5"
 
If you cut a barrel to a length bellow 18" it becomes prohibited, even if it started out shorter than 18" to begin with. I presume every CFO and licensed gunsmith in Canada will confirm this. Although, you can cut to 18.5" or less and make a restricted, another half inch it becomes prohib. No two ways about it, if you have a rifle with a barrel cut below 18" by a gunsmith or not, it is illegal.
 
So if we could get back on the topic of the new ACR that I didn't know was coming that would be great. Is it a version of the Remington ACR that was made for the military ? Lighter ? Reliability problems solved ? Increased accuracy ? The idea of the ACR when it came out was fantastic , and we are aloud to own it non restricted. Then they dumped the bushmaster on us with out fixing any of the concernes that were brought up, " mostly the weight " and made the REM ACR a perfect platform. If there is a refined version of the Bushmaster coming that i can get my hands on in the near future its going straight to the top of my list.

I'm currently looking at a SIG 550/556 with the AR lower... they are not giving these things away ! The SIG's make the Bushmasters look like a bargain. Any info on a revised version of the Bushmaster would be greatly appreciated. Im about to start googling this " Revised version ", any links on where i could find info would be great.
