Automated scale /powder dipensers??

I use the Hornady Auto powder measure. I like it, but like others, have run into situations where it produces a string of overcharges (which it warns you of, and you simply dump it back in the cannister and let it measure again.) For the most part, it has been good, and a great time savings.

Merry Christmas and many thanks to all who replied!!!!!!! Much appreciated. I think that with all of your replies and some further research on my own I am now ready to purchase the RCBS. Just haven't sellected a dealer yet at this time.

cheers

The more steady your loading bench, the less this is likely to occur. :)

My first chargemaster piled up, as well as some friends' units. They did replace it it even though the warranty was up, and the new one is hanging right in there. I seldom use anything else anymore, but wish it were faster. Natchez has them for $289

I bought mine from Natchez.
I will be shopping from them again in the future.

Is there anywhere in Canada that has the same deal on the ChargeMaster as Natchez???? Honestly, I hate dealing across the border...way too many hidden costs and who knows what the border agents do to precise equipment. $289 is sure tempting though.

Not even Brownells in the USA is willing to match that price.
I tried since I was already ordering other items from them.

Nobody in Canada will match that deal, Prophet River has by far the best price in Canada.

Got my RCBS Chargemaster from Natchez. Can't remember how much duty, etc.. was on it, but in the end it still was a better deal than I could find anywhere else.
Only used it for about 50 rounds so far, making ladder loads for my .308, and boy it saves time! Can't imagine going back to hand trickling each load now. (And I've only been reloading for a couple of months!)

Merry Christmas,

Trav

Another vote in favour of the RCBS system. It's head and shoulders better than the Lyman -- faster, and doesn't need to be warmed up for 30 minutes to settle the scale before using as the Lyman does. I *had* a Lyman, and *have* a RCBS.

Did you take any notice what variance you're getting in actual grains of powder ? Those seem like excellent groups but are tough to translate into dispensing accuracy. At 100 yds you could probably have variances of (+_) 1/2 a grain or so with some powders in a .308, and still get small groupings. A powder measure will dispense within that variance quite easily. What are your dispensing variances ?

The 6mm is very fussy on the amount of powder charge, My point is that I have used my balance scale and the Chargemaster and neither one has given me better groupings but the Charge Master is faster and easier to use.

Got the RCBS Chargemaster combo I've been wanting for Xmas from Natchez. 289.95 US plus HST and $10 customs handling fee. Gotta make sure to get rid of all those static spots and do the McDonalds straw trick. Runs good now.

I just bought an RCBS chargemaster combo a month ago and I love it. Since I've had it my productivity in the gun room has gone up dramatically. I find that in the time it takes me to move the case to the press and seat the bullet the scale has another charge ready for me.
It does have a little trouble from time to time with certain extruded powders as it will go over when 2 or 3 granuals fall out at the same time but I just keep a pair of tweezers next to it to pluck out a little to get it bang on.
I am very happy with my purchase.
Check through the EE, I have seen the combo's go for as little as $250 on there recently.

I can offer all of these auto devices at very competitive pricing BUT for precision work, I do not use nor recommend them.

Compare what is weighted by the device on a precision scale ( a good gem type scale). It might surprise you.

We did the tests, and stopped using them in a big hurry.

Happy to sell them but they aren't all that fast and you will never know how far off you really are.

YMMV

Wow I'm quit surprised, I have checked it against my beam scale and its balls on all the time! Mind you it's a lee beam.
