My dogs ran outside to bark at something, nothing to out of the ordinary, then i heard a howl. I ran outside with a flashlight, I saw two coyotees fairly close, got the dogs inside then drove
around on my atv to get a better look, only saw tacks leading into the woods.

Now, I have my small game ticket, but what's the legality of shooting a coyotee on my property? It's not hunting if I fear for my dogs safety is it?

Depends your area what you can do. Call the township in the morning and ask, also call up the MNR and get their view. Threat to your animals I would think means you do what you have to do. Since the threat is over for the minute, call in Thursday and find out for sure. You start chasing the yotes around at night and you'll be the one the MNR is after. Some areas here in Ontario have lic. for pelts, special permits for trapping yotes as well. Play it safe is all I'm suggesting.

Please, find out what the laws are BEFORE you do anything.
We don't want to hear about your situation which will be spin-doctored on the 6 o'clock news to ban more guns.
Good luck.

You address as Ilderton,NW of London, if your rural and you can legally a safely discharge a gun. Have at them fella, as you are protecting your livestock (dogs). When the coyotes come around my chicken coup or bother the dogs there dead meat. You are allowed in Ontario to protect your livestock from predators, and keep a gun handy to do it.

You are good to go. Protection of your property is not considered hunting.

Rather than using a 223 I would prefer a 12 ga up close so I don't have to worry about hitting a rock and bullet flying wild. What's the word on taking the atv with a loaded shotgun in the rack? I sense a no-no

You may have discharge laws per your county ,look into them save your self a hassle. Then kill them all!

Bandit, I live in London and would love to help you out with your problem. I'v been looking for somewhere to hunt yotes in the area. PM me if you are interested.

Yep the yotes are pretty bad this year in this area, their all over the place, I'll be getting out and hunting hard now that deer season is coming to an end.
Bandit, let me know if you need anymore help shooting them I'm just outside Strathroy.

Amazing how the buggars have moved in. When my wife grew up in Tillsonburg in the 60s, there were none and no one had an idea they were coming.:)
