Sks mag removal problem

First and foremost let me make one thing clear. I might be new but I know how the search bar works... I looked high and low for someone with the same issue but I couldn't find anything.

The issue is my mag won't just slip out like everyone else's. I've watched the videos and read the threads on it but mine simply won't come out. Is it possible that the pin is preventing the clasp from releasing? It's a Chinese unissued model so I can't imagine anyone messing with the mag well. Can someone please let me know if there's a secret to taking it out? As well in writing what the full process is? Because without taking the mag out I can't get the stock off and I just know there's about 27 pounds of cosmo still stuck in there. Thanks in advance.

If i understand correctly,you opened the floor plate, removed trigger group but you cant pull the mag out? Did you pull the bolt back? The mag cant be removed if the action is closed. Now if you opened the action and/or removed the bolt but the mag still dont come out,the mag is very tight fit. Happened to me with my chinese SKS many years ago, the mag fit tight as hell. I removed it by grabing the inside of the mag and rock it side to side while pulling up then came free. PM if you need more details.

I disassembled everything including the trigger group. It is literally just the mag left on the stock. I will try wiggling it when I have at it next. Thanks for the replies.
 
I also have a new unissued Chinese SKS and I had the same issue. I was able to push the mag out from the top using a flat blade screwdriver. The fit was very tight and with the cosmoline on it, I just couldn't get a good enough grip on it to pull it out. It is easier now that the cosmo has been removed.

Well I cleaned all the Cosmo off and can grip the mag but its just.... Not coming off. I think a little time to sober up and get ideas is the best way to approach it.
 
I had a Russian like that ... Sanded the wood just slightly after getting out ( more smoothing the wood than taking any beef away) slid in and out fine after
 
I had a similar issue - the unissued Chinese ones are very, very tight (that's what she said dohoho) and you'll need to give it some elbow grease. Stick your index finger in the into the magazine (also what she said) against where the back spine of the magazine is, then put your thumb on the outer side of the spine and pull as hard as you can up and back toward the butt (she said that too.)

These things have been sitting in Cosmoline for at least 20 years, so they'll be pretty stiff. You aren't going to hurt it, so give it all you got.

Like SVT Said, as long as the bolt has been pulled back and left open the mag should come out fairly easily
 
Come to think of it the first time getting the mag out it was a combo of not knowing the action had to be opened or removed plus she had the kungfu grip ;)

But the matching numbers! The last thing I want to to crack a piece off then have to get an lar mag adapter. Then I might as well get a tactical stock and a couple of flashlights, an 18" tactical bayonet, hybrid sights for the quad rails and a tactical teddy bear. I just don't want to ruin it..

You're not going to ruin an SKS with your hands, these things aren't made of soggy cardboard and liberal backbone, they're made to stand up to a lot more abuse than your hands are capable of dealing out. The magazine has a lip which latches onto a groove in the magazine well, and it will require a good bit of tugging to get out, especially the first few times. After running some rounds through her and disassembling it enough it'll loosen up a bit, mine did. If you crack something on an SKS with your hands you should look into boxing, you'd do well there.

Please don't joke about bubba'ing your SKS. :p
 
Wet cardboard and liberal backbone... Made me spit take coffee into my tool bag. And the last thing I'd want to do it ruin my baby. If by some chance I came upon one that's already bubba'd I'd probably go all out but never will I ruin a perfectly good, hardly beat up, numbers matching sks.
 
I just went through this 15 minutes ago with mine.

New Chinese SKS, and I wanted to clean the cosmoline out. My mag is a very snug fit, and being covered with cosmo didn't help me get a grip. I used a rag, to wipe off as much cosmo as I could, then using a different rag to get a good grip on it gave it a good yank, and out it came. Putting it back required touch more pressure than the others I have handled, but it's back together now!

In the big picture, dead easy rifle to strip, and I doubt anything I use it for will cause a bigger clean up than getting the cosmo off!
