Narrowing choices on a semi-serious air rifle

Maybe where you live putting a pellet through a deer's ear kills it. But not in Montana, and not in BC. Tougher deer here, I guess.

And I have a hard time believing that hitting a deer in the ass with an airgun pellet at 50 - 75 yards is going to cause a mortal or crippling wound. Again, tougher deer here I guess.

If I'm going to kill them, I'm not going to bother paying the federal tax for a silencer, and I wouldn't be looking to buy an air gun. Federal law governs silencers, not state law.

And this is Montana, not Ontario. Here, people don't "freak out" from the sound of gunshots. But it would be unreasonable to expect them to put up with the sounds of gunfire every single day as the crows, starlings, magpies, deer, etc get dealt with.

I can't see a deer with a pellet hole through it's ear as either limping or maimed. But yet again, tougher deer here, I guess.

I can appreciate that some delicate sensibilities are offended by the thought of punching holes through a deer's ear or thumping them in the ass at a distance with a pellet. But when I have to put up with the garden raids and deer trying to kill my dogs in my own yard, frankly, I don't much care.

What kind of dogs get killed by deer??

Rick, don't go with a PCP way too much of a pita to fill and when you need it it will be out of air. go with a single stroke 22 caliber. lots of pellet choices flat nose will likely not penetrate the skin, pointed pellets will and at 50 yards in the vitals will drop a deer stone cold dead, ask me how I know??? .17 caliber works just fine too. just make sure if you scope it you put a scope that can handle the double recoil alot of scopes cant take the beating. I use a diana 34 and like it a lot, If you can afford it a diana/rws 54 is the cats ass.

Get the Weirauch 100s you wont be disappointed. I shoot magpies at 100 yards no problems , There not cheap but you get what you pay for.

I was out guiding once. And drove around corner 2 young teens had killed added with an air rifle. There are pig hunting videos with air rifles 177 cal . And then there is the bigbore custom air rifles shooting 25cal 80gr at 1100 fps shooting 5/8" groups at 300 yds
And that is amazing !! I have taken lots of pigeons big bl ack ones complete penetration throught shoulders 60 yds Raina model 34 accurate 25yr old gun wierauch any thing is good hw80 with 177, 22, and waiting for 25 cal barrels awsome big springer set up targets 100-300 20 moa base and have some fun artitilary shooting definitely. Have an Air arms s410-so xtra fac pcp 22 400-1000 fps accurate . Fun to shoot using a higher power scope you can watch pellet in flight the trajectory and when shooting in the wind you also see the pellet slicing the air reallycool .
For deer coyote control a sleeved silenced where allowed not Canada with heavy penetrating projetie accurate shots are what shooting is all about And shot place ment

I have a weirauch 97k, have owned many fine firearms(45 years + of shooting) and my 97k is accurate and keeps the vermin around the farm in check. I have a 3x9 leupold on it, cheap tasco scope lasted about 25 shots, love it and hope to pass it on to my grandson.
