Any one know if your allowed to hunt with wax slugs in Canada or more specifically Alberta?

If you have never heard of wax slugs there are lots of videos on YouTube

how many slugs you plan to shoot on your hunting trip? factory slugs are about $5.50 for 5, or bulk box of 15 for $13.99 (walmart/canadian tire), buy the correct ammo and avoid having to ask this ridiculous question.

happy hunting!

You are trying to kill an animal, make it quick and as pain free as possible. Dont piss around with something that MAY work. Buy real slugs. If you want to screw around in a gravel pit fire those wax slugs all you want. My $0.02

Any of the following slugs would be recommended for hunting..

I've shot them all when I first got my fully rifled 870, They are all like rifle precision.

Like others have said.. Don't waste your time.

These slugs WILL fly straight, and hit where you want. They are great ammunition.

Have you fired wax slugs into water, gel, or newspaper? From what I've seen they break up into shot again only a couple inches into the target and cause little penetration. Firing them into trees I can normally get them to take off some bark but barely damage the wood past 1/2" deep. I'm not sure how they would handle the ribcage; they may break up early. This is with target load wax slugs. I have made wax slugs over heavier charges and most of the time they break up leaving the barrel. Some members here on CGN have had luck with hot glue slugs which are the same as wax slugs but made with hot glue instead of wax. They are on my list of things to test but I haven't gotten around to it just yet.

Personally for the price difference I would just go with factory slugs. It's only a few dollars more.

Its legal but waxers or cutshells should only be used for fun or in a pinch when thatys all you have
I wouldnt want to pick all the shot outa the animal anyways waxers dont stay in tact once it hits something it explodes back into bird shot

Have fun hunting tho and its nice to see others that know about this stuff!

if you have a rifled barrel cool not everyone does what i say is if i want a rifled gun i will use a rifle

from the alberta regs, it is Illegal :
"ammunition of less than .23 calibre"
the wax does not count. birdshot pellets are too small.

Nope. The ammunition being used is 12-gauge - if someone is foolish enough to hunt moose with birdshot, there's no legal barrier to it- just the ethical one. It's a slug- what it does on impact or on the way to the target is beyond the control of the operator.

Years ago we used to buy shotgun shells loaded with a lead slug. They worked great to bad they seem to have taken them off the market and people have to resort to making slugs out of bird shot.

Let me know when you find a rifle to shoot a 1oz piece of lead at $1/shot...

Good Day, Sir.

(I have 2 different barrels for my shotgun. A Fully rifled, and a 30" Smoothbore).

I have made wax slugs at 30 cents a piece, that's a lot cheaper the buying deer slugs, if your just shooting old cars or something they are definitely the way to go.

I am interested in the solder slugs
