Best truck gun

This thread kinda wandered from "truck gun" to "survival rifle" to RPG.

Based on that I recomend you carry a slingshot and make plans for some sort of AAA.

Cheap, light and compact works as well inside the cab of a truck as it does hiking to the top of a mountain... for me anyway.

Thats better....

I also think if he was looking for a shotgun he would be in the shotgun section. For a quick handy rifle to get out and get off that quick shot, I still say a Ruger #1, followed by just about anything with a DBM.

A Handi-Rifle.

Actually although I have one, I'm more likely to have my Savage 24F in .223Remington/12gauge in the truck.

It toally depends on wha you are going to do with it. For me during Sept-Dec I always have a regular hunting bolt action and a .410 single shot. Never know when I might wan to take a detour and go hunting, or spot some grouse. In the winter I usually have a .223 bolt action. April rolls around and we are back into bear season so there is another hunting rifle in the truck. July I might have a shotgun or a .22 or WHY.

If it's a rifle that mostly just bangs around in the truck, I'd probably look at something cheap and reliable like an SKS.

Hey guys thanks for all your opinions. The info everyone put forth has given me lots to consider. I didnt give exact info as to what "the gun" would be used for cause it'll change every time i'm out. Coyotes, deer, bear, even grouse! I really like the idea of a savage rifle shotgun combo. It sounds like the best of both worlds. If i dont find one in the next month or so a sporterized Enfield or sks will do just fine (I guess i'll just have to run the grouse over) and cost a lot less than my original idea of a marlin 1895. That being said keep the suggestions coming i still have 6 more spaces in my safe to fill and a rotation of guns to have ride along with me would be great

My 30/30 or 45/70 Handi rifles, both have iron sights.
Also I never store firearms in vehicles, so if need be...
Just one screw and they break down nicely into a small case or backpack.

You can also make a QD takedown knob for them from a Tool Knob and 1/4X20 rod.

I have a 6.5x55 M96 Mauser built into a "scout rifle". I put it together as my truck gun a few years ago and it works pretty well. It's quick to load with stripper clips and has enough power and accurracy to kill anything that may require it where I travel.

What scope and base did you use?

T/C Contender base. I don't remember what brand the scope is but it's one of the cheap Chinese ones, I have always planned on replacing it with a Burris Scout Scope but this one just keeps on working so I have never got around to it.

A centerfire gun doesn't do much damage to a grouse unless you're shooting varmint grenades. Or just head shot them.

*edit*

Couple more suggestions - Mosin Nagant or Husquvarna 30-06 from trade ex. Also the 6.5x55 mauser 96 is a good idea too.
