So, I figure i should pick up a 1911 one of these days, and i figure might as well go for a classic name, so if i go with a 1911 I was thinking of the new production series 70's.

I would like to know who might usually stock one of these and what is the running price for them? No rush as i would like to finally pick up a Beretta 92 first (I have been telling myself to buy one for years, but never listen) so some general info would be fine

So, anyone want to share a picture of their blued Series 70's?

Look for an original stock Colt series 70. There should be a few around. The stampings are better. Also, there are more variations, like Colt combat series 70's.
 
My first pistol was a 1911 over 30 years ago. I haven't owned one in 30 years but the series 70 with that gorgeous wood and blue is by far the commercial epitome to me, of the Classic GI 1911A1 I came to love in movies as a kid. When I can put another 1911 back in the safe it will have the A1 backstrap and look GI for sure.
 
I bought a stainless series 70 repro last year and it has been flawless. In fact, my wife has taken a real liking to it. We're looking for a stainless Colt Commander in 9mm for her right now, to spare my series 70 from the pink grip treatment she likes.

Anyway, Lanz has a series 70 repro that I spotted while searching - can't quite tell the finish. It is a little pricey, but it's the only one I've seen in a while. Wild West at West Edmonton mall had a blued one but one of the guys that works there bought it.

To the OP...What your getting is basically a GI gun....no beavertail, no adjustable sights, no three hole trigger, no serrations or checkering on slide on frontstrap or backstrap...your getting a plain jane gun with the name Colt on the side...What you will pay for a Colt, take a look what Kimber has to offer for the same price as an example...

Just sayin...

People say you pay for the name Colt but you get quality with the gun. New Colts run out of the box, Kimbers often seem to have problems. IMO Colts are a higher quality gun, much more sought after, higher resale value. A Colt Series 70 has no BS firing pin safety. The Kimber has a dreaded design that could cause all sorts of problems.

When I was in the market for a 1911, I saw all sorts of brands. Nothing satisfied my quench for the 1911 like the Colt Government Series 70 did. Beautifully finished, reliable, has a slight rattle and is built like a 1911 should.
It's no Les Baer, Wilson Combat or any of those guns, but they cost 300% the price.
