Is the .45/70 under the restriction for rifle caliber in Southern Ontario? I am looking at a lever action rifle and wondering if it is worth it to get the .45/70 if I can use it in multiple places or should I get something in 30/30? Please advise and thanks in advance

I believe that if you read the hunting regulations, the calibre restriction in Southern Ontario applies to small game hunting. I just checked on line, and you should confirm it yourself. Essentially, that means hunting groundhogs and the like, although if you like to small game hunt with your .25-06, go ahead. All the restriction would mean is that you cannot create some rabbit load for you .45-70 and use them. Nothing at all about deer, other than shotgun only zones.

True. I would be using it for Coyotes and potentially Hog when I get the opportunity. I have my .270 bolt that'll take care of the Yotes just fine, that I can use for larger game too. I was hoping I could justify the purchase of a lever action (Marlin) that I could get some decent use out of.
