Hey guys,

Wasnt much of a black/green rifles kinda guy but for some reason the Black Special Carbine just keep popping up every where I looked on the internet.
So I went ahead and finally purchased it from Wolverine and it just came in now.

First off I love this thing. Having owned a Classic Green Non-restricted before and not really diggin it (size wise) I thought maybe shrinking it down a bit might change my outlook on it and so far it has.

Couple of questions for the guys in the know, (yes I have read the sticky on FAQ for them) but I dislike the play in the upper/lower. I know about bending the lower forks abit to hold the upper better but who has actually do this before???
Anyother ways to fix it with out putting it in the vise??

Next question, is it ok to paint the gas tube???
Just dont like the grey metal under the handguard, want to paint it a semi-gloss black just like the rest of the rifle. Possibly use hi-heat paint???

My front sight glows so bright in the dark but the rear drum tritium seems very dull I can still see them in the dark but they are just so off to the front sight.
Is this normal or should I already be on the phone with Wolverine, LOL!!!!!

I have the low profile B&T top rail and was wondering if anybody else uses the same rail with a Spectre 1x-4x on it?? Is it sky high, can it be used without the cheek piece??
Have the cheek rest just dont really like it that much.
What do you guys think, Aimpoint micro or Spectre??????

Anyways, got my order of extra furniture in OD Green to give it a "Classic Black" kinda feel. Love the classic green but not a huge fan of the colour on the reciever. So why not do the best of both worlds.

Still waiting for CanAmmo to ship out my 3 extra SAN mags and crate of Norinco .223 and I am ready to rock.

Here are some pics.

She's so purdy, I want one so bad!

I always hated the play between upper and lower so, I have done this with 2 different Swiss rifles.

The Classic Green had it done when I first got it and has since sent 3300 rounds down range stoppage free.

The Black Special had it done around the 1000 round mark and functioned fine until the issues started around 4500 rounds, then SAN replaced the upper and it ran good again with the new upper and same tweaked lower.

other than bending the upper you can use filler gauge to check the gap between the upper and lower, then get the proper thickness shim ring (brass shim) between the upper and lower. This can be your first step.

second step, find out the holes sides, test with slightly bigger diameter bin, find the best fit pin and custom make one. This may require some special tools and access to pin gauges, also need to make a drawing and know some machine shop that would do this.

Once I did all this, my CG feels like one solid piece. However, once I did all this, I somehow missed the feeling of how a Swiss Arm should feel, then I removed everything and put it back the way it supposed to be.

Just add a few layers of paint to it... it will protect it more, and you won't have to bend anything. Thats what I would do to mine, however my non-restricted version doesn't wobble enough to affect any concerns.

I may do this, havent real like the idea of doing it tho. We will see.

This is a good idea aswell. Alot less torture on the rifle thats for sure.

Im just looking at it right now and considering how much to bend.

What I did was use the vise grip, then with a towel wrapped around the lower fork, just kinda tweaked it a few times, then tested it, and found it needed a bit more, so repeated the process. Using the vice grip's you can back the tool off so that your only putting as much pressure (not much) at you need right?? Just a little bit each time, enough that your kind of flexing the wings several times but they don't feel like there actually bending, then when you test fit them back together you realize it has bent tighter, just by a little bit at a time

If that's not easy to understand because I explain things in writing like a jack ass, PM me

I fully understand what you are saying. Just want to get this right the first time.

Wobble is gone. Got it perfect.

Just gave it a small little squeeze (wrap in an old sweater) and thats all she wrote :D

congrats bfiles, you bought one of the best balanced rifles on the planet.

Good thing you are talking about a restricted... cuz my non-restricted is anything but balanced! (damn heavy in the front)
With that said, I don't care whatsoever about the issue. This is one rifle that I will keep for life!
Even at the current price I paid NEW... I think it is worth every penny. (restricted probably not though)
