CAS gear......again

Bob/John do I hear the potential for a Terrace CAS shoot? You b@#$ards are gonna bankrupt me. :)

Ah you lawyers are all the same. Just double up on your next clients bill and you will be cool....

If we did I'll be damn if I am going to SO you if you are shooting that coal you think substitutes for gunpowder. My eyes are still watering from last months shoot. Besides I started IDPA and it cost John and armful, he started his Multi Gun to get even and I am out $3.5K so it is your turn. One thing I am not playing Mr. Dress-up, I'll come as the town Banker.LOL

Take Care

Ha I wish - on salary -so yup I hear ya. Rest assured I wouldn't expect ya to SO, when are you gonna retire??? :)

Yeah...I'll hold off on the charcoal...

John I'm sure I'm due to best you characters one of these days LOL

Sounds good :)

Picked up a used Uberti '73 and a pair of Vaqueros from Epps this morning.

Now to find some leather I like and we will be good to go:)

John

Sounds like a great setup so far. What do you have for a skattergun?

Try Laroche Leather. Most guys in my crew source from a local maker, but some have LaRoche gear and they can't speak highly enough of him. Nice looking rigs, fast turnaround and reasonable prices. ht tp://www.larocheleathers.com/

There we go :)

Odered a Mernickle rig tonight. Might as well get good gear!

Now just have to wait for guns to arrive and look at ammo.

I am thinking I will start with my IDPA 109PF loads and go from there.

Looking forward to trying something new :)

John

John, I think you are on the right track. My CAS loads are a 125gr truncated cone 1.45-1.50 in length, at about 800-825 fps from my revolver. They work well in my 73 and are fast enough that they ring the targets well, they also have never failed to put down a properly calibrated knock down target.

Sounds good :)

My IDPA loads should work good then.

I am using a locally cast 160 LRN boolit so it doesn't have to go very fast.

Once my new guns show up I will be able to see how everything works......or not :)

Go to SASS.net and download the manual for Cowboy Action, decide on which class your going to shoot in, before you potentially waste your money. PF required is 60, that is all, your not trying to take down a rhino at 3 yds.

For some reason you think I haven't already done that?

If you read my post a little closer you will note I said I plan to use my IDPA loads at a starting place.

I see no need to work up a new load until I have all guns in hand- shoot them, check for function, point of impact versus point of aim etc etc

Once that is done and I evaluate the performance of the pistols and rifle I will decide what I want to do as far as working up a load goes.

John

Personally I would never waste good loads that I have built for a specific discipline, since I have been known to shoot up to 4 different disciplines during a calender year. And yes, I have talked to many people here that want a short, quick answer but are not willing to do the research required to enjoy the discipline fully. Just a note, in the past few years the SASS manuals are upgraded on an annual basis, this can lead to wasteful spending if you haven't kept up to date. This I can speak from experience.

What type of knockdowns are you refering to??

Just asking because the vids I have seen only use knockdowns for shotguns.

John

Quite a few clubs use knockdowns for rifle or pistol also. Usually just 1 or 2 stages and you can usually clean up any misses with the shotgun. As long as the KDs are designed properly and calibrated correctly (must go down with SASS min powerfactor) I find that they allow more options in stage design and are fun as a change of pace. I have setup stages with 24 knockdown targets, no designated sequence and any target may be engaged with any firearm shoot until all are down.

Cool :)

That sounds like a fun stage!!

John

It is but you need to ask Lefty about the $hit House Rat Stage he ran last July. That stage alone was worth the trip from Saskatchewan to Kamloops.

To funny when I tried to use the letter S rather than the $ it made a bunch of hugs just like this :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug:

Pioneer gun works (.com) from Oregon sell a good short stroke kit as well and the last I ordered was shipped to Canada (about a yr ago). Just as important ( no, let me refraise that, more important) to get a pair of new low power competition springs for your 73 as well. The ones that come with the gun from the factory are very abusive to the parts of your gun that they inter-act with. So much so that I've seen very new guns with very few rounds thru them need the main lever and elevator lever replaced.

Oh and I almost forgot to mention, get a "reduced power coil trigger safety" spring as well. Only 7 or 8 bucks and essential to a well tuned cowboy gun.
