will update photos in a while, a nicer portrait, til then

What are used No.1 rifles in the common chamberings going for these days?

Too many years ago I was looking for one in 45-70 and couldn't afford the $650 asking price. I went to a gun show a few months ago and that same rifle is over $900 now!

Since I have a 45-70 Sharps these days I thought I might go for a .243, 7x57, .303, .308, or similar - something I already load for. It would just be a casual target rifle. I've seen one of the dealers here advertising a consigned .30-06 for $950, but that is both too spendy and a bit more hot a cartridge than I'd like.

Here's mine.

Lypsey's (Talo) 1 of 250. 375 Ruger. Have since put a Limbsaver pad on this one.

please educate me, why the following after these rifles?

They are neat looking, maybe someone can sell me on them?

Not sure exactly but I love the fact that they are shorter than other rifles..... not bolt so same length barrel gives you shorter rifle.
Handle very well, and with the single shot makes you a little more disciplined about the shots you take.

Besides they look ###y!!!

One day I'd like to find one in .22 Hornet. The longer I leave it the tougher its going to be since they are discontinued in that caliber now.

6 SWEET Ladies!!! I'm over due for a breakfast at the Harvest Moon! Still haven't seen that orange Dodge around! And the white vinyl siding doesn't look familiar! Who are you????????????????? :p

EDIT: stopped in at the store today for a 15 inch Homey's meatlovers, didn't see the orange Dodge around, a sad day indeed!

Geez, I can't believe that I went this long in life without ever hunting with a Ruger #1, let alone owning one. They are such a beautiful classic rifle. A falling block action rifle for just over $1,000 is a steal of a deal. Congrats to the guys who own one and just maybe I will go out and purchase one this week.

This thread is really making me regret selling my RSI 7x57. And my 22-250. And my .270 (Two Dogs, you still have it?). And my 45-70. All I have left in a falling block Ruger is my first 45-70 now.
