Need restricted barrel made for prohib H&K P9S

I have a nice H&K P9S 9mm on hold...I need it sent to a gunsmith to fit a restricted barrel to it so it can be transferred to me.

(I thought I had Joe Dlask lined up for this job as of last weekend, but I haven't been able to reach him all week so I'm not sure what's up.)

Does anyone know of some other good shops who could do this job for me if Dlask is unable to do it?

I have had several "prohibited" pistols re-registered by Barry after he built "restricted" barrels for them. His work and his personality are first-rate.
 
So what happened? Did your P9S get re-barreled?

The factory barrel on mine is so hard a file won't leave a mark. The barrels are press fitted ("interference fit") into their cowls and represent a difficult job. It can and has been done, but needs a lot of skill, and some custom fixtures, cold for the barrel and heat for the cowl. And more skill.

There are some 6" factory barrels out there, made for the target version. I'm sure having someone replace the barrel will be cheaper though...
 
Barry and Bits of Pieces is located in Delta, BC. I have had the same experience the others wrote about. He's first rate.
 
Seems like a lot of expense just to retro-fit a prohib gun. Probably the easiest way would be to obtain a replacement barrel. If you can find one. P9S's lockup at the barrel-hood-to-slide so even with a longer barrel, accuracy improvement would be insignificant. Then you have the holster problem to fix. This might be hard to hear, but your project might not be worth it in the long run. Plus, there are plenty of guns out there in the market that will do whatever you think the P9S will do, much better, cheaper, and more accurately.

The deal on the pistol fell through unfortunately. I have a line on another locally in .45, which is pretty uncommon, but it has no mags so we are trying to work out a price that works for both of us.

@hatman, I get your point for sure, but it's like buying a classic car. Design, nostalgia, etc... It doesn't have to make sense.
 
Magazines for a low-production, discontinued pistol (P9S in .45 ACP) will be harder to find than the firearm itself, so tread carefully.

Ask all the folks with a Bren-10 and a single magazine.

I actually like the P9S pistol, and at one time I desired one. But the stupid Liberal government made them prohibs.[Our PM is on record that the prohib class will remain] Even in the prohib class, P9S sellers want top dollar for one. They are just not worth it in my opinion. I fire a lot of PPC in both revolver and semi-auto and have yet to see one show up at a match.
That's not to say that if a nice P9S came along for C$400.00 I wouldn't turn it down....

Seems like everything H&K is top dollar. Would like a nice P7 too but not willing to pay the current asking prices.
 
I bought a rebarrelled P9S in 9mm a few years ago. I don't regret that purchase for a second. Fantastic gun. They are a classic piece of firearms history from a totally different era. A time when mud-and-sand reliability testing, magazine capacity and price didn't rule everything, and banish all other ideas from the marketplace.

Just to have a pistol with the roller-delayed blowback operating system, how cool is that?

The other thing... the whole "I'd buy one if they weren't prohib" thing makes less and less sense to me as the years go on. If you want a certain firearm in Canada, go for it... or move to a foreign country. If you are waiting for the prohib laws to change, regrettably I think you are going to be waiting for a very long time.
