Dies from the States

Can anyone tell me why there is such a large price difference when buying dies from the USA vs Canada. A deluxe set of redding dies is $30-40 cheaper down south. I called two separate dealers and they are willing and able to ship across the border. If there is no export permits required the the mark up seems a bit high.

Here is my $0.02.
I think the reason is that Canada has a few more people handling the product and each person has to make some money, and in the USA the places that sell it for cheaper prices usually have better buying power so they can sell it for less.
It would be great to see prices the same or closer to US prices but I am not going to hold my breath.
I try and buy from Canadian sources when I can but sometimes you can purchase it from the states pay shipping and taxes and still have it cheaper.

Everything is cheaper over the border, non excluding dies. Bigger market, more competition = lower prices for consumers.

Good answers above. In most cases a US dealer might buy straight from the factory and there is only one shipping charge and no middle man. In Canada a distributor might buy from factory, ship, import and resell then ship again to your favorite store thus a higher price.

This is also the case with Harleys and other US made vehicles. Middle man in Canada adds to the retail here.

I definitely support Canadian business but it frustrating to see the price differences in some cases. I think you are all right, the extra middleman and handling is jacking the prices up. Hopefully someone can start buying direct from the factory and passing the savings on.

I have three sets of them and two sets came from the states. You have to order a fair bit to save money, but mine were part of a larger order.

Wholesale sports buys direct from Remington they aren't passing along any savings and neither will any other dealer, till every dealer starts to take less of a margin and that isn't happening any time soon. Bullets and especially powder is way less in the USA compared to here. As a matter of fact anything gun related is a lot less money in the USA.
I would Prophit River is direct with Redding, he isn't passing along any big discounts.

The folks you talked to, did they tell you about the additional charges they have for International orders? Sinclair seems to ship stuff in one size of box, so you think to yourself I'm only ordering one set of dies and it gets mailed to you in a box that could hold 10 sets. So unless you are buying several sets of dies and other reloading tools, the amount you "save" for buying 1 item does not tend to work out to much of a saving. FS

I am planning on buying several dies so it makes it worth while. Prophet River is great to deal with but to save $100+, starts getting tempting. Especially when the shooting budget is getting stretched thin.
