At Last - A Review of March 8-80x56 Rifle Scope

other march 10x scopes is the 1-10, and 6-60, both great optics. the 1-10 is a great black rifle optic and runs less than the s&b shortdot.

as for warranty worries, that is like needing a warranty on a lexus.... just not needed if built right to begin with. if you haven't owned one, you likely wont understand. DEON is a top rate company working on building the best reputation in the business and will not strand its customers.

Great write up, thanks

Jerry, speak with mr JIm Kelbly, he is incredibly kind and helpful and will take your call. After a brief conversation you will quickly learn that warranty worries are not really warranted.

A few responses to questions:

Weight - wasn't supplied and don't have a real accurate scale to compare. Feels about the same as the big S+B

Durability/Ruggedness - obviously Spartan wouldn't have wanted me to 'torture test' and I wouldn't do it with one I own anyway LOL. My sense is that is will stand up to the normal range use it is likely to see. Does it seem as rugged as NF NXS ? No but for that matter neither does my S+B :)

Are you serious? My friend used to work as a mechanic a Porsche and did warranty work all the time.
You clearly either have too much money or were brainwashed by "Mr. Jim Kelbys" sales pitch.
Do you mean to tell me that March has NEVER had a warranty claim?

I would love to own a March scope but to spend in the neighborhood of $4k of my hard earned money on a scope with claims of "Lexus" reliability with Ford warranty, not a chance! Why someone would spend that kind of money on a scope like that when their direct competition (and even cheaper manufacurers) offer lifetime warranties is beyond me.
Hey what do all of those mechanics do in the shop at Lexus anyway?

Whenever someone makes statements liker this regarding the warranty it always leads me to believe they are somehow involved with the product sales/marketing. I am not saying this is the case but is simply what it leads me to suspect.

Great review, as usual.
I've got one of the more 'tactical' Marchs on order through Spartan, the 4-40X, FFP. They work on around a 3 month turnaround time from order to delivery, so I won't have it in my hot little hands for another couple of months.
I had agonized over whether to go the S&B route, but your review has reassured me that it should be good.

Yes I am serious. March is bound by Japanese law and limits its warranty to 5 years as a result. Something you may not like, and obviously cannot afford to risk your hard earned money on. Your limitations of both knowledge and finances have NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING to do with March's quality, reliability and durability. Like I said if anyone buys a March and has an issue with it DEON will make it right, its not a big deal, for some. For others its the end of the world.

You seem to know a lot about these scopes. Do you own one?
I'm thinking about buying one, but would like to know what service to expect when it/if does break in Canada.
Sometimes scopes get banged/dropped and need repair.

Process is as follows, send to Japan. Personally or through dealer. Deon/march fixes, sends back to dealer or owner of scope. No paperwork required or involved as in some/most US shipping.

Lets talk Limitations, yours in particular. You do not know me, what my education is or my bank account balances so it would be wise for you to shut your mouth rather than spouting off about things that you clearly have no clue about! Secondly, I don't care about what the Japanese law is regarding warranty claims. Thirdly, unless you work for March or Deon, you can't make the claim that "Deon will make it right, its not a big deal". Wow thats a great warranty policy "we'll make it right, its not a big deal" You sound like a used car salesman. The facts are they offer a 5 year non-transerable warranty which sucks compared to their competition and sucks for a $4000 scope.
So according to your claim that "if its built right, you don't need a warranty" why do they offer a warranty at all. Again I will ask, do you mean to tell me that March has never had a warranty claim?

What is your involvement in this company? Are you a dealer?

$4000 for a scope, any scope is alot of scratch no matter who makes it. Imposing a 5 year Warranty on such a purchase is a
show stopper for me. In effect such a short warranty period by todays standards definetly stops alot of potential purchasers in their tracks.
No matter how good the March is will it be around in the next 5 , 10 or 15 years ! I wonder how the warranty effects their
resale value, imagine having to pay for repairs on a post 5 year old March, that initial 4K might seem like small potatoes!
In my books any potential purchaser of a used March would think good and hard of buying a scope without any warranty
especially at their selling prices........ I know I would.
At the end of the day what does a March have that more established scopes like S&B, Zeiss etc. can't offer with such solid dealer
networks and excellent warranties and service.

This post echoes my sentiments exactly with regards to the warranty being the show stopper. While S&B have solidified their reputation in the optics world, with all due respect their warranty sucks too! Actually its even worse than March at only 2 years.

March makes a grand total of 1200 scopes a year, not sure if they have upped production or not. In any case its always a wait for the scope you like, unless one is lucky enough to find one in stock in one of the few retailers who carry them. The market likes these scopes and resale of them is nearly non-existent as those who currently own them have no need to sell them. Used March scopes are extremely hard to come by, for a reason, simple market principles at work here, supply and demand. Lots of warranty banter and plenty of folks who are clueless about the product and the parent company and the support they offer. The truth is they are, as Tomochan has once again confirmed, a fantastic scope. I guess another 20 years will tell if they are any good or not...lol

which is exactly why Leupold Bushnell and NCStar exist, for guys who want lifetime warranty without having to pay the piper. Different strokes for different folks. March fills a very niche market and those who use the product have no beef with the warranty.

You said it, only 1200 scopes per year. I had no idea they were such a mickey mouse operation. It will be a miracle if they are around in 5 years( I do hope they can not only survive but thrive ).Thanks for the informative post.
