Elk slaughter in Manitoba

im quite sick of the native bashing but i will say i dont think they should beable to hunt this way off the reserves. native wildlife already has a hard time especially the fish and aquatic plants most of my time is spent dealing with invasive/pest species (carp, gobys, other fish, zebra mussels, sparrows, starlings, rats, invasive plants, ect) they say you used to be able to walk across the detroit river on the backs of sturgeon now your lucky if you see one a year and if you do its almost always a juvenile no bigger then a foot or two

I'm all for traditional hunting rights, so leave the 4x4, the quad, the rifle, the steel knives and the booze at home. Take your hand made bow, you stone tipped arrows, your stone knives and your dog and hunt as you ancestors did. If you don't want to do it that way then follow the same laws I have to.

I second that!!

you guys that are "yapping out any orfice" about "tags"...need to give your head a real good shake. What does a tag mean???? I`ll give you some homework to do and I want you to come back on here and report to the rest of us "how you made out"........: "Go to your best lawyer and tell them that you did some work on a reserve and the guy cheated you out of money" and see what that lawyer tells you!!!! I bet it will be like any police officer or MNR: "You should have known better, there is nothing we can do about it since its on a reserve, they have their own officials".
Had it happen to my Brother`s company. He was hired to come onto the reserve to do cement foundations for their casino. Got part way done and the natives wouldn`t allow him back on. He asked about his form plywood and the work he had done already ($7000 worth).....they laughed and told him his best bet would be to leave immediately. He contacted the law enforcement and a lawyer and they said the same bloody thing: Anyone that enters a Reserve to work is at their own financial risk....there is nothing we can do for you....chalk it up as a "learning curve". Same thing goes with Tags, what MNR or police officer will enter a reserve to look up a lead

A tag system for aboriginals would do what? They all have the right to hunt.
So, give all the aboriginal's tags and they go out and shoot, no different.

Oh my, you are far thicker than I first thought...I will type slow so you get it...

They apply for a tag(as a group preferably) in a draw system...Not all get a tag, much the same as everyone else...The only difference being a longer season, and the ability to hunt in areas restricted to others(parks, and reserves)...1 tag = one animal in ''that'' species, and designated ### of animal...Rather than being able to take 12 Elk of any ###, a tag system would drop that to maybe 5 animals...This is the system that is now used here...The all tags that don't get filled before the season ends are just that...No difference? Big difference IMO...

It's a moot point. This happened in MB where this tag system is currently not and never will be implemented. Now back to the original topic.

Except for the fact that the natives that shot the 12 elk are not poaching and cannot get charged with anything. An important point which you seem to have omitted, perhaps by honest error, perhaps not.

That was what was the same way of thinking here not so many years ago.....

Like I said in a previous post, Metis were just awarded the same hunting rights as First Nations here in MB this past fall. Do you honestly expect me to believe that our NDP government will now reverse that decision, which was largely based on a Supreme Court of Canada ruling, and subsequently implement a system where First Nations and Metis have to abide by seasons, bag limits and tags?
It'll happen the day after they allow open carry of handguns in Toronto.

HFAYEADMF.
Your dreaming. It's not going to happen.

Look im metis, but this :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug: is beyond what is normal or ethical. Look harvesting a deer or ONE elk for a family and selective harvesting at that, is needed. Taking advantage of a system that is trying to include our rights as metis is harmful to all metis. Lets take a look at some of your own comments from here. It stirs racists to a frenzy when we take advantage. I think more to the fact that people need to get it in their heads that this was our country and it was taken from us, So a few privledges might be in order. But the blatant over harvesting of elk or any other animal with the EXCUSE of "I'm Metis" is absolutely ridiculus and makes all METIS seem bad. We should have to report in any animal we take, and maybe even have to go register a tag each time. And if you don't you take the punishment like any poacher. Feeding your family is fine, but responsible hunting is EVERYONE'S including the Metis responsiblity for god sake we call ourselves people of the earth well then prove it. Just my two cent, sorry for the rant but some people just piss me off.

My ancestors trace back to Canada as of the 17th century. I am as white as you get. I didn't take jack :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug: from you. You deserve no special privileges.

Completely off topic, but can someone please fix this &*#$*#$ website so that we don't get "hugs and kisses" everytime someone spells the word S H I T.

And I agree 100%. :)

Well, seeing you're Metis, if it wasn't for Europeans coming here, you wouldn't exist. What do I get in return? :D
