well they recieved my app for pal and rpal in the mail today!

Visleguy, John in BC and Nitpicker,
just some advice, it your License doesn't show up in the mail within the 2 weeks they state (give them a few extra days due to the holidays) call them!! When mine didn't show up I called and at first I got "oh well it can take up to 3 weeks" but when I had her check my file she found that they had entered my address incorrectly so they mailed it out to the wrong address. If I hadn't of called it could have been weeks until it was returned to the CFC and they realized their error, contacted me, re-issued and re-mailed it.
My very limited experience so far has taught me to be proactive when dealing with the CFC or BC CFO. That's why I'll be calling them tomorrow to check on a couple of transfers I'm waiting on, calling seems to help "dislodge" your paperwork from a pile and get it moving again. ;)

Thanks for the tips Karmadoc...Every time I called the Firearms Centre they asked for my address. So after a half dozen calls I'm hoping they got it right. And the Alberta CFO used the on-line data to complete and mail my ATT so I am assuming it's just a holiday delay.

But if it's not here by Friday I will call. I do know from my conversation with the Alberta CFO Lady, on Dec 17th, that my license had not yet been printed. She said it would likely be over the next couple of days. So although it says issued on the 14th it was not printed until the next week.

She told me they print everyday but there was a bit of backlog. With their backlog and the BC CFO backlog it makes me wonder if the entire province of BC is arming itself...LOL

I'm suspicious about the BC CFO backlog. A few long term owners and dealers that I've talked to have expressed that they think the BC CFO are dragging their feet on things to try and show that they are overworked and understaffed in hopes of maybe getting some of the staff back that got laid off due to the demise of the long gun registry. Not sure if there's any truth to it, but it is one of those things that makes you go hmmmmm. Especially since stuff in Ontario doesn't seem to take as long and they are the most heavily populated province in the country.

karmadoc: re one of your other posts. I've shot the CZ sp-01 shadow through about 600 rounds now. It's an AMAZING pistol. I kinda dislike the plastic (ok polymer) guide rod, just because it feels flimsy - at the same time, its never given me any troubles and it's $30 to replace with a SS one. The only issue I seem keep having is running out of 9mm ammo. I seem to go through 9mm ammo very fast, I'll finish the magazine and be like "really, that was 10 rounds?" it might be the lack of recoil or something, but I just wizz through the stuff.

Wow, good to know Zeer, thanks! I can't wait to get it and go shooting, the waiting is driving me a little nuts!
I've only shot a CZ 75, not the Shadow, but I got a good deal on the Shadow and it felt great in my hand. Haha I think I'm gonna have the same problem as you with ammo, when I shot the 75 and the slide locked open I was like "Really?! No way that was 10 already?!" before I knew it I had gone through 50 rounds wth?!
That's kind of why I bought a S&W M&P 22lr pistol as well, now I just have to find a few more magazines for it.
And when I FINALLY get both of them I will be one happy little camper!
Thanks for the tip on the guide rod, I'll see how it goes!
Thanks again!

Well Happy New Year to me...My license arrived in the mail today

Has a slight panic when the front of the card only read Possession-Acquisition. Didn't realize the small print on the back of the card contained the Non-Restricted & Restricted words...after all that time I thought they had screwed up and I would be in for another long wait but all is well, panic is over...LOL

Oh great! My credit card already hates me, now this! Guess I better call and cancel my hydro and cable just to offset the spending frenzy!

Haha, that and cut back to mac & cheese or instant noodles for dinners! I'm afraid to add up how much of my pay cheques went into firearms and accessories since July and I keep finding bloody new things to buy!! I used to buy premium golf balls when they go on sale and now I'm thinking, "You idiot, you could have had SOOO much more ammo instead of those ProV1s!!" FARK lol

Well...mine and a friends applications are still rolling along.

Rec'd by RCMP: Dec 7, 2012
Input in tracking system: Dec 21, 2012
Interview done: Jan 5, 2013 when I called to see what was up (my credit card was stolen over Christmas and I had a letter on it's way indicating that they can't process until payment is made)
Reference Interviews Done Jan 21, 2013
Submitted to Ontario CFO today: Jan 23, 2013

RCMP indicated a MINIMUM 6 week delay for the Ontario CFO to process as of today. If anyone's in Ontario and waiting...that's why.

At least it looks like I won't need to bother with an indoor range...it'll be spring before I get my license and can go outdoors. Sucks that it seems most clubs charge for a calendar year and don't pro-rate...really blows.

Time to continue waiting....

That SUCKS about the CFO still dont understand what they need to do after RCMP finishes, it goes back to RCMP anyways and CFO is done to print
Good luck to you!!

Submitted Jan 2nd, waited over 3 weeks, called and they told me another 6 weeks possibly. Thats when i used someone's suggestion to say i had joined IPSC and had a competition first week of Feb. She told me to call back 2 days later they may fast track it, within 20 mins i had the email confirming it was transfered, should have asked for the 22 as well but didnt want to push it lol!

the two main changes I think would be great.

1.)make it so that gun store is added to the LTATT

2.) make your RPAL and a LTATT all you need to get your R firearms to the places to use them.

Simple.

and how is it possible that it will make us all go kill each other?

So, just a quick update since I had the opportunity to learn a little more about the process. So, RCMP does their checks from a "Federal" standpoint. They send it to the CFO who has access to Provincial Police data (OPP in my case). Then, for most applications the process stops there. I learnt that since I checked off a "YES" in the "Is there a reason we should be wary about giving you a gun box"...it had to go to my local PD (Ottawa) to look for any issues here (domestics, suicide attempts etc). Basically I had some issues at work, Dr put me on leave, treated me for depression. I changed jobs to get out of the cause, and was cleared by my Dr. So, that's why it went local and they told me another 6 weeks.

Now, the good news is that my license was issued today! I'm absolutely thrilled. It only took a phone call to the CFO, who gave me the local PD who was assigned to my file. Spoke with him for about 10 minutes, explained what I just wrote above. He checked my records while I was on the phone and approved it on the spot. Now,it's in the mail!

Dec 7, 2012 - RCMP Rec'd Paperwork
Jan 25 - RPAL Issued

-This timeline includes an invalid (stolen) credit card number and time to correct that, the Christmas/New Years Holidays, and time for it to be sent to my local PD for additional review. Overall, taking out 3 days for Christmas, New Years...46 days. Overall, QUITE IMPRESSED, but I do say...stay on top of your application and follow up, even if just to get a status update. It goes a long way, but be very polite and professional.

Now...my credit card is about to hate me. Good thing is that my wife is convinced zombies are coming so she is totally cool about me getting guns. I think she's crazy, but if it allows me to buy guns...I'm on board! Zombies are coming!!! Haha
