Elk slaughter in Manitoba

Wildlife in MB will be hunted to extinction in the next 5 years. It's all okay according to the NDP.

What else would you expect from the NDP? Rest assured that they will take your tax money, and give it to the people that don't want to work, but as far as doing anything for the present or future working citizens, that is not going to happen.

It should be noted that this part of Manitoba has had to close or reduce the legal harvest of moose. This has been directly related to overhunting by natives.

If this hunt took place on private land without permission they can be charged. Will the DNR do this. There does not seem to be much will from our legal system to do so even though there has been cases go to the supreme court on issues like this and they have been upheld. http://www.canlii.org/eliisa/highli...sk/skpc/doc/2004/2004skpc137/2004skpc137.html

Well I got drawn for late season elk on the north side of Riding Mountain this year, leave in 10 days. Hope there are some elk left as I doubt there will be much of a herd left by the next time I get drawn.

what a bunch of clowns.

i think the term "sustenance" is no longer relevant when you're using snowmobiles, atv's, modern rifles, etc to slaughter animals and then using your new pickup truck to haul the meat away for "traditional purposes". they always use the "tradition" excuse, yet the only traditional thing natives seem to abide by these days is shooting/spearing everything that moves.

i say it's about time for canadians to put an end to this BS and demand equality. i'm thinking a country wide boycott on buying hunting/fishing licenses would be an excellent start....

Exactly.

Is there a big whitetail in the box of the truck?

This is a joke!
Make equal rights for everyone. Are we really the raciest ones for hating on what they do or are they the raciest ones for abusing there privileges and crying about it when they don't get something they think they should?
This so called "Treaty" that was signed umple years ago should be revised and a little more thought put into it.....
By "they" i mean (Aboriginals - Indians)
THEY are there own worst enemies

You seem to care a great deal what goes on in MB.

Best look over that quote again...I didn't say I didn't care...I said I care ''more'' what goes on where I live....

You sir are the one crying and kicking....Just telling you about how things are here...Wasn't always that way...The moose population here was in peril due to the exact same practices taking place your way now...Not so anymore since the tag system, and moose population has been on a steady increase...k-southman post # 88 has the right idea...Your's is just lip service....

Not just lip service my friend. Just because I don't "share" everything I do on a public forum doesn't mean I'm sitting around doing nothing.

"Idle no more" can work for others as well. :)

Not to get off topic, but its a simple question: Why is it that: natives can legally hunt off the reserves and on the reserves, but a non native can only hunt off a reserve and not in a reserve????? Is that not racism against white folk???? I just remember growing up being told: Never get caught hunting or shooting inside reserve boundaries.

Like blocking roads, digging out culverts, and removing bridges so natives couldn't get to moose areas as was done here...It only took one year of this to implament a tag system...Hint, hint...

In Alberta we can hunt on reserves. But you must have permission. Same as natives hunting on private land.

The natives can hunt off reserve because it's in the treaties. They relinquish all land except reserves but may harvest fish and game from the Queen's land until time as the Crown deems the land needed. We can't hunt on reserve because they say we can't.
