Picked up my two rifles from the Gunsmith yesterday, so excited for my first two custom rifles. Big thanks to Dan Opel of Do-So enterprises and Plenty O Patches.

First up is my Rem 700 LTR that was chambered to our custom 308 chamber for the 190 SMK which we named the 308 Lande after our passed away shooting buddy. The action was trued and mated to a Broughton stainless 5R 24" 1-11.25" twist barrel with a .250" recoil lug. The whole gun was sent to Arma-Coat for Nitron Blackening, then I added a 20 MOA MARS Rail with NF steel rings and a 3.5-15x56mm NP-R1 scope. The scope also has a flatline ops bubble level mounted to it, then the whole package was dropped into a AI 1.5 Chassis with the Sinclair Tactical Bi-pod.

The second rifle I have nick-named the Green Monster. It's a Rem 700 SPS trued action mated to a match chambered 300 WM, Broughton 26" 1-10" twist barrel with a 3 port muzzle brake and the same .250" recoil lug. The gun was also sent to Arma-Coat for an Olive green coating, then I added a NEAR 25 MOA rail and 30 MOA Alphamount which secures the 5.5-22x56mm NP-R1 Nightforce scope and Flatline Ops Bubble Level. Dropped this gun into a 2.0 AI chassis and will be adding a sinclair tactical bi-pod.

I love the Sinclair bipod, awesome for prone shooting with its super wide stance. Very adjustable and HEAVY duty. You won't be carrying it on a hunting rifle.

Love the near alpha mount, Flatline ops level and the bipod looks great too.
I may just try that bipod out on my 7wsm, whats an extra pound right?

That mount + rail on the 300WM is AWESOME!!(if it zeros at 100y). Having the full 100moa to play with should get you out to 2 km.

Great looking rifles...Congrats! Now get to the range and report back.
 
Anyone interested in letting me in on a good starting point for load development with the 300 WM? This is a new caliber for me, Using norma brass, Winchester Mag primers, 208 AMAX and/or 235 gr Chinchaga tipped bullets. All data will obviously be use at my own risk, not a new reloader, just new to the caliber. I'm thinking around 64gr of H-4350 cause I have some on hand for the AMAX according to Hornady. Definately want temperature stable so I think I'll lean towards the Hodgdon extreme line.

I don't know if you have any Reloader 22 on hand but it has always been my "go to" powder for the .300 Win Mag.

73 gr Reloader 22
Fed 215M

You should definately find something with this combination.

Well managed to get out to the Rocky range on Friday, gorgeous 7 degrees out, perfect day for break-in and testing. I know the whole barrel break in story has been beaten to death, but here was my procedure. Each rifle was thouroughly cleaned before shooting. I would shoot a round, then clean the bore with a few swipes of a copper brush and Sweets 7.62, then patched it 2-3 times and shot again. Did this for the first 5 rounds, then went to 3 shot strings before repeating. I did an eyeball bore sighting first on the 300 WM and then let the first shot fly. Couldn't believe how little recoil and the Timney trigger broke exactly where I expected it to. Shot was on paper so I adjusted the scope accordingly. Moved out to 100, shot three adjusted, shot three adjusted ( 1 gr under max Hornady load with H-4350). Moved out to 300m, did an elevation adjustment based on estimated velocity of 2800 fps with the 208 AMAX, load was 0.5 gr below book max and shot two three shot groups. These groups are just out of the picture but the 6 shots in total measured 1.46" center to center on the furthest apart holes.

I had loaded 3 rounds to max book recommended and since I had no pressure signs at all I shot those last three bullets. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face when I retrieved my target, a 3 shot, 0.68" group at 300m. That's 0.21 MOA, man am I happy. Now to load up some more of those and some other increments, bring the chrony to the range and do some serious testing! I will also be running some of the Chinchaga tipped bullets to see how they perform in my barrel, they are truly works of art, hope my gun likes them also.

Also utilized some left over 175 SMK rounds I had from my previous 308 barrel, so I used those to break in the 308. Had a few left by the time I got the gun zeroed so I dialed out to 500m and made went 2 for 2 on the ram silhouette target, right in the head. I will be starting the load development for this rifle soon as well, lapua brass 190 SMK's and varget I'm guessing will be the answer for that one.
