First Semi Shotgun

Clay (Prophet River) has a Beretta 3901 in camo for ~$1000 new. He had a bunch of Urikas in black at $999 a while ago aswell. I bought an Affinity for my dad which I like, sort of a Beretta/Benelli hybrid of sorts. Was 100% reliable except one really cold day where a new Nova was also acting up. I haven't tried it on clays but plan to in the following week, I'll post an update/mini review on here once I've given it a more thorough test.
 
There are a lot of good semi autos on the market, but it needs to fit you. I have fired the new Beretta a400, and they are very soft recoiling, but they just don't fit me. The SX3, the Maxus, and the Benelli SBEII and the Super Vinci fit me very well. The SX3 and Maxus are softer recoiling, but the Benellis have proven to be very reliable in dirty conditions.I may try a Benelli for waterfowl hunting, in the future.
 
You can find a nee SX3 for under $1000 right now. Great guns. A Browning Silver is another in that price range and its virtually identical internally as the SX3. I've own/have owned both and their solid guns without a lick of problems.

I got a 1964 Browning A5 with a modified choke for a great price. That gun fits me like it was made for me. I got my first and only ever triple on ducks with that one wihtout even thinking about it.
 
With what I have tried so far that Winchester SX3 is the biggest surprise. Feels like I am holding nothing. Damn you Winchester and making my choices difficult

Best bang for your buck is the sx3. Compare and you will not get a better gun for 1000.
 
I have a SX3 and love it never had any problems and the camo quality on the one i have is beautiful.

Great thread as I'm also now in the market for my first semi 12 gauge. Will be hitting a few local shops and also the Toronto sportsman show/basspro/sail to shoulder a few and see what feels good. Thinking right now an 11-87 field version as I don't need the 3.5 as this will be for clay targets and playing around. I have an 870 sps turkey/predator with a red dot which is all sighted in for turkey loads and can handle 3.5's if need be. i have a Winchester 1300 with a red dot for deer (challenger slugs) and was looking for a semi to add to the collection that can be my go to for playing around on the farm and the range. The browning silver might be nice but currently above my price range. Watching used to see what may come up and maybe by the time I'm buying I can pick up the browning.
 
Those Winchesters are tied in the top spot for what I'll buy. Damn them. I have gone over all the pros and cons, prices etc. Can anybody tell me what the 870 of the auto-loader world is then?

I'd say the browning Auto 5. That would be the 870 of the semi world. Or the matching rem 1000 or 11-87.

I wouldn't say that is an insult. The 870 is a true great as well. It is certainly rated highly and performs well, especially for it price. :)
 
As much as I hate them...I have to say that a used Beretta 301, 302, 303, 304, 390 or 391 is going to be the best bang for your buck. There are many of them around with less than 2000rds thru them for well under $700 and they will last a lifetime and then some. Next would be a used Browning Gold/Silver or their siblings the SX2/SX3 from Winchester...these are easy to find with low round counts as well. Remember that the typical hunter will fire an average 200rds a season so even if the gun is 15 to 20 years old it will not have been shot all that much and many times the guns have been in a closet collecting dust bunnies!!!
 
I own an 870 as well.
I also shot a Vinci that I didn't own.

It took me a month to buy my own Vinci and the only thing I regret about that purchase, was wasting a month of my life wondering if I should buy it or not.

Go have a look on the EE right now. There is a reason that there are no used Vinci's for sale...
