Both are 34mm the BEAST is FFP and the ATACR is SFP. Almost 40oz on the beast...

I'm a bit disappointed in the beast, I dislike everything about it

I'm the exact opposite, would love to get my hands on one... what's not to like? 60moa per rev, 120moa total, new glass supposedly better than S&B, zero stop, new illumination control, 34mm tube...

There's also a 3rd new Nightforce, the Competition model (NXS/Benchrest had a baby)

I agree. I would love to see one up close, if the glass is good its mine!

They really dropped the ball making that ATACR sfp. It doesn't offer much over the existing NXS, and has fewer reticle options.

If Nightforce was trying to compete with S&B, USO and Premier Reticles then they have done what they set out to achieve(if the glass is in fact better than the NXS)
I totally agree though, the choice of reticles sucks on the ATACR and isn't much better on the BEAST, does anyone out there even use Horus reticles anymore?
That MIL R reticle on the BEAST sucks too, why all of the gaps in both the vertical and horizontal planes?

I shoot MIL/MIL configuration and the USO Mil scale MPR is the only reticle I have seen so far that goes to .25 mil subtensions. For my style and preferences of shooting this is the best reticle out there(definately not for everyone though).
I still think the scope will be a hit.

I disagree. I think the price of that beast will put them out of the game. Rumour is that its something like $3600. Something like the ATACR in ffp would have put them in the playing.

Street price is expected to be closer to $3000 - $3200. If it does truly have better glass than S&B, why would it put them out of the game? Aren't other companies allowed to enter into the ultra high-end scope market? I assume it'll have the Nightforce warranty which also thumps S&B.

Everyone is trying to trump S&B. Not easy. S&B have one advantage, they grind their own glass. (they bought the factory).

Let's see when the have shipping samples to try out.

If the price is $3600 I think they will still get the Nightforce faithful to bite but at that price, I think most would opt for one of the other big players.
BTW am I missing something? It looks to me like the BEAST and ATACR are virtually the same scope other than the BEAST has a few more reticle choices, its longer and heavier and is FFP

Beast also has the unique turret system and a different illumination control.

.. one thought is that the ATACR will eventually be released in FFP.. they just didn't do it now because it would take away a bit from the Beast... guess we'll see.

They can't compete with S&B on the same price level due to brand perception, even if the glass is the same quality. Nightforce is a high-midrange brand, S&B is a top of the line brand. At the same price point the majority will still buy S&B due to the name.

Guys, don't forget the hard core user. NF is known in the field to be the toughest scope on the planet. If they can improve the glass and light gathering, there will be a huge market and its not the BR or casual shooter crowd. I can think of a zillion guys who would love to have S&B clarity in a NF housing!!! NF is building to customers demands, and I think they might just know something we don't. They are not in the business of making mistakes. Both these scopes are pretty impressive and do have a very specific purpose.

on optics planet the BEAST was like 3200.00 and the ATACR was like 2350.00 One thing to remember is the nightforce warranty is way better than S&B.

Your "hardcore" Nightforce user are such largely because of the price point. Nightforce's F1 does well because it is cheaper than the big name scopes with similar features.

People aren't going to pay $900 more for that rapid elevation feature on that beast. The fact that they've added that says that Nightforce still doesn't get ffp. Its a stupid feature to put on an ffp scope. The whole point of ffp is not to have to dial in, but to be able to use the reticle. The best reticles they offer for that are the H58 and the tremor. Those are both Horus reticles that add $400 to the price of the scope due to the royalties. They're also both considered to be too cluttered by many.

I predict the beast will be about as popular as that 1-10x ffp monster IOR scope. It's not even on their webpage anymore.

shooting at a mile using nothing but hold-overs? nah, that's not what FFP is intended for. As for people not ponying up more money for a high-end Nightforce, it seems to work for Zeiss... but who knows, you could be right. I guess we'll see when it comes out.

Correct. Its to give you the speed to deal with snap and moving a targets at closer ranges without having to touch the turrets or controls, while still having the ability to dial in for long distance deliberate shots.

I couldn't agree more, there is a very loyal Nightforce following and I think they will be all over this scope.
