hey all
I apologize if this is a repeat question but multiple forum searches have yielded frustrating non answers.
could we maybe get a sticky of 45 's compared going? I would like to buy as 45 but is a 400 norinco decent or not. I know the leupold scope is better than my tasco. but is it 5 times better as its five times more expensive, i think not my opinion.
So the question whats a good option without breaking the bank? what is reasonable pricing?
thanks all
J

Get a Norinco!
I got the $599 deal, for the Norinco 1911 with a thousand rounds, from CanadaAmmo.
Deals over now, but you can still get the gun alone, for under $400.
Fit and finish is much improved over the older models, trigger is good and the accuracy is very good(equal to a Spartan, but Norinco's don't have to be clean to work properly!).
Try to find an owner of a new Norinco 1911, who doesn't like them, including the 9mm.
Norinco QC is quickly surpassing anything coming out of the States.

I have the STI Spartan. It costs about $800 I think at Freedom Ventures a site sponsor. It is a good lower end example. I love the look and feel of the 1911 I find the shooting of it in .45ACP is easy, a gentle push. With any 1911 ammo selection is very important for feeding, cycling correctly every time, also accuracy. They were made to feed ball ammo so wadd cutters and SWC are not so good for example. I guess find the ammo that works best in your gun as stick with that ammo, load, powder, projectile. The stainless steel Ruger is attractive for the same $$ as the STI and it is SS. The Rugers are now readly available, have been hard to get in the recent past. It wouldn't be a bad idea to spend a couple extra $$ on a trigger job at the get go when you buy the gun if this is available at your dealer.

Best shooting 45 short and stubby (acp) I ever shot was the CZ97. Very nice gun. Would be my first choice if I ever get back into 45auto.

Get a real good 1911, i have the Remington r1 enhanced, very well balance, extremely accurate, not much more recoin than m'y Beretta 92fs, real good finition, Best 1911 for the price.

i have the norc 1911A1 i payed $325 (marstar) new and the fit and finish are as good as any i have seen. i think when it comes to norc you need to see it before you get it. some times there is tool marks and the fit is crap then others are top notch. but any of there newest guns are pretty good. and at least for the 1911A1 all after market parts will fit it. i wouldent go with the sport but thats just me. i like the base model then work up. if you pay under $400 total for a norc and you really like the 1911 then u can always sell it and get and expensive one later.
alot of people bash the norc 1911 but i think people who actully have one and shot one are happy with theres.

Go for the Norinco..I had the two-tone and foolishly sold it new and un-fired to a fellow range member who hasen't had a faliure of any kind with it in over 1000rnds.I am just waiting for CanadaAmmo to offer the pistol/ammo deal again...

I have a SAM Commander-E .45ACP and it is a great gun, reliable and accurate. I replaced the grips with more traditional double diamond style...other than that I don't feel a need to change anything. There is another entry level gun that I will have an opportunity to try out and that is a Regent R100 (haven't got it yet) here is a link to this Turkish made 1911:

1911 platform was made for the 45acp cartridge. Very little recoil with a 1911. My favourite 45's are my 1911 and Sig 220. Personally, I think the SAM and Norinco's have a finish that I wouldn't be happy with. STEEL-I suggest getting into a CZ97b, Ruger or STI 1911, if you are wanting a nice pistol that actually looks pretty nice at a competitive price. Glock or M&P if you like polymer. A premium polymer 45 is the HK45, which is supposed to be kickass, but has a big price tag.

Lots of choice here, personally I wouldn't skimp too much as in the long run ammo will be your largest expenditure.

If can find a nice used CZ97, Sig 220 or nice 1911, go for it. S&W 4506, 650/750's pop up every once and a while and are excellent 45's. I am biased towards the Sig 220 and 1911 platforms, as that's what I own and love. Had a CZ97b and sold it.
