best 45 for the money

I really like my glock 21 (500-800 bucks) however the Remington 1911 (700 around here) can be found at a good price, and I got a norcino 1911 (350ish I think) in a package deal that I am quite surprised with.

I would suggest 9mm since I enjoy shooting my cz75 a lot more due to cost of ammo (both reloaded or store bought)

Seen a few all steel Tangfolios for sale in .45 that looked pretty solid...under $500 used in ex condition.

norc all the way, solid pistol and quality improving all the time..... IMO best value .45 1911 you can get.... Sure there are much nicer fit and finish pistols but 300+$ ? ........
Import

I was seriously considering a Norc, until I saw one... I'd rather pay more and get a solid pistol with nice cosmetics. But, if cosmetics isn't the most important, a Norc is a good choice. I'm not knocking Norcs, but I like to purchase something that looks as nice as it performs.

If you want a gun that just works, is cheap and may or may not have some ruff finish, look to the norinco. My 1911A1 shoots great but is a little rough around the edges. If you can't deal with that, you are going to put money into a gun and it's still going to be a norinco.

That said, I bought a higher end Kimber for 5 times the money earlier this year and just sold it. I like playing with the norinco better.

A couple hundred in parts (springs, grips, magwell) and a serious refinish/polish job (doing myself) on my $350 norinco and I think I am further ahead. It might be better to start with the SAM or??? but I have seen some ruff SAMs as well.

Best Bang for your buck in .45ACP, hands downs, is the Tanfoglio Combat. retails for about $530 (FV), $100 more for an Italian made all Steel pistol than a Norinco, same gun esentially as the C97.

By design in order:

1911 - Norinco A! or Commander, I have three, two of which I have had customized. None have choked on my reloads after 10 years of service.

Tanfanglio/CZ97B - two of the most accurate OTB .45acp pistols you will ever shoot. Large hands will love them...small hands not so much.

M&P .45acp - so much better than the Glocks in the same caliber and with Apex parts even better. You will now get a half dozen posts challenging this statement. Read them then go and buy the M&P. If the price is over your budget then go with the Norinco.

The OP wanted the best bang for the buck, not the most expensive plastic 45 out there that works the same as a Glock that you can buy for a grand cheaper.

LOL...get your facts straight. 95% of the 1911s out there are/can be MUCH more expensive then the HK45.

Show me a gun that can go 50,000 rounds without anything breaking down or cleaning and you can have my approval. (http://pistol-training.com/archives/2714) An HK will hold its value MUCH better then a dime a dozen Glock will. Sure parts are a bit more money and a bit harder to find (if you have ANY internet skills you can find the parts in about 2mins) but if you have the time/money to shoot enough rounds (10s of thousands of them) to wear out a high end gun...then you can afford some replacement parts or a second gun as the gun itself is by far the cheapest part of shooting.
...This is a moot point as most people near will wear out a pistol.

A Glock 21 is around $800 plus taxes, HK45 is $1400 plus taxes...that is far from $1000 more expensive. Please work on your math.

- HK45 is a SA/DA pistol...not a striker fired one and requires more time and effort to make and put together.
- HK does not make/produce as many pistols as Glock does (doesn't mean they are better/worse) and there for supply/demand is higher.
- The German labor force is one of the most highly paid ones in the world. Germany has very strict export laws and weapon regulations that need to be met.

All of these things add up.

As for fit and feel...

I find all Glocks very blocky, stock sights are meh, triggers are mushy and not great. With the HK you have a much slimmer gun, a more comfortable and adjustable grip, recoil is very pleasant on the gun due to the recoil spring design and makes it feel as if your shooting a 9mm and I find they shoot much more accurately due to a better barrel to slide lock up.

A gun with SA/DA is nothing to be afraid of...sure your first shot MAY be a heavier pull but you can carry it cocked and locked OR thumb the hammer as your getting your second hand into place. SA/DA gives you many OPTIONS that you can use if so you wish...it also gives you the ability for a second strike on a bad primer and although for a civy on a range it is a moot point it is something I think is important to have.

But none of the three points you list make it a better gun then a basic Norinco for a new shooter on a limited budget. For that matter none of the points make it a better gun period.... just more expensive.

Why not just get a pellet pistol then? If the only goal is to keep it cheap and put holes in things?

The gun shoots better and softer then a Norc, is better built then a Norc, functions better and WAY more reliable then a Norc, does not require work and parts like the Norc does...please don't tell me you buy a Norc and keep it 100% Chinese stock...

H&K cool-aid is brewed strong with this one^^^

G21's can be had BNIB for a touch under $600. btw. (and yes, are just as reliable as H&K's) I own a few of both btw....

Please show me where BNIB Glocks are that cheap? Not a once in a blue moon on the EE...that doesn't count as we all see those deals a few times a year but they are not common place and something you can expect and rely on to find.

Of course I like HK...why wouldn't I? Do you also buy the cheapest cars too? Cheap Jamaican beer instead of a nice import?

I own very few guns...but the ones I do own I shoot often, they get used on a weekly basis and are worth every penny to me and I know i can rely on them if I ever had too. If I was shooting a gun once a month or less...then I probably wouldn't own an HK.

The gun I carried under my Wilderness Permit was an all stock Norinco .45acp loaded with .45-08 cartridges. The latter fires a 200 gr LSWC 1350fps. Only added a 22# recoil spring. Your HK may provide less felt recoil but bang is bang so function is a wash as is reliability. All three of my Norcs have gone bang every time I pulled the trigger with a live road in the chamber. The latter is true of all my guns - I don't count factory duds in any reliability comment as ammo related issues aren't the guns fault. The HK's are excellent guns but are over priced in Canada for the reasons you outline. They are attractive guns and fill a niche market just like a Porche does but the latter isn't a family car and your HK isn't a gun I would recomend to a guy, new to the .45acp and on a budget.
