V-Max for deer

I have used Hornady V-Max 165 grain (red tips) Are they the same?

Sure stops deer in their tracks ...... but they can be messy.

Hornady markets at least 6 or 7 different bullet lines that have red tips.

yep. A-Max, V-Max, SST, Interbond, FTX, GMX and Monoflex are all Hornady's with red tip.

You should try some .311 dia 125 gr . Sierra pro hunter . I have had good groups on paper and the wife kill a doe with them bang flop!

Exact same comment. Wife, doe, 140yds, SKS, same bullet. Same result.
OP, V-max not for deer. SST AND INTERLOCKS work.

Unfortunately, your comment could have influenced someone with even less knowledge to use the V-max on a deer. Members here need to be sure of the info they post or that info can be tragic. Please, be sure of your posts before offering advice.

50 grains of H4895 is what I've been using. Trying varget next but cant really see accuracy improving.

I read an online article about a fellow setting up his 6.5x55 to shoot deer with V-MAX bullets, but he was specifically doing long range hunting, with shots over 400 yards I think. At those ranges and impact velocities the V-MAX acted like a traditional SP and worked fine on deer for him.

However, I would have to agree that it is not a good general purpose choice for any big game.

The texans kill many thousands of deer with v-max in little guns each year.

In a 7.62 of any flavour you will be fine, place the bullet properly in the lungs and they will die quick.

Only adding to the choir but it would be a poor and unfair choice to the game. Proper big game bullets are readily available and minute-of-a-deer's-vitals loads easily made.

The v-max is not a bullet designed for hunting large game. To make them suitable for deer and up Hornady would have to put them in an orange box and lable them hunting first.
