Debating whether to buy a M&P 45 or a Glock 21 Gen 4??? I have an M&P 40 and I think it is a great firearm but I have always been after a Glock. What are your thoughts on the two??? I am thinking about getting into some sort of competition. Either IPSC or IDPA. Do you think one of these options would work???

I Appreciate your advice! :)

^^^what Shooter said, 1911

I was not 1911 until I bought one, now I understand ) lolll, very well balance, almost no more recoil than my Beretta 92fs(9mm), extremely accurate !!!

I don't know for the G21, but I've tried a G17, ...there was a non-negligeable recoil, which was made me loose time between each aiming..(bring back the sight on bulleye...), it's not that I don't like Glock, one day I will have one (G17), however, it was my experience with it...

I always found the G21 very accurate "more so the the G17" at 20m I can get a 2"-3" group if I take my time

you will not be dissapointed with the Glock 21

you say you like to get into either IPSC or IDPA just remember 45cal is not cheap to shoot. i have a glock 21 and find it to be a very good gun as for the M&P 45 i never shot one i have shot an M&P 40 and didnt like it

If I was going to be paying the price of .45 ammo id make sure it was at least comming out of a 1911
You allready have plastic gun, treat yourself too some steel.

^^^now your talking  try it just once, a 1911, you Will understandtrue love )

Gotta agree with the others, it is rude to shoot 45 in anything other than a 1911 or a S&W 625 revolver, if you are lucky enough to find one. Some traditions aren't meant to be broken. I'll give grudging recognition to a SIG P220.

That said I'm really really tempted by the new Springfield XDM .45 with a 5.25" barrel. What ever you do, do not buy the two tone XDM at Wolverine right now. It needs to stay there at least 3 months so I can save up enough for it.

I've never really liked the M&P series personally. The G21 is a solid hand gun though. Keep in mind that if you're going to enter into something like IPSC the price of .45 adds up pretty quickly.

I have 9 1911's.
I own a glock or 2.
I own an M&P in each calibre, plus a pro and a spare 9.

Fwiw I found the G21 grip to be more 2x4 ish than any other glock (the one I tried was a Gen2). The M&P has adjustable back straps. But i believe the Gen 4s do as well. With the small it feels pretty close to the 9 with a med, which just so happens to be what I prefer......

It really doesn't matter brand or style of pistol(s) you buy, shoot and fondle.........

As long as you have one of each!

Cheers!

1911's are an obvious choice but if I had to holster one for any length of time and concerned about holster "wear" I would choose my gen4 Glock21. Besides, Glocks look better with some wear marks IMO.
I was never a fan of the "fishy" looks of the M&P's........

I've shot a Glock 21 and owned an M&P45 - the Glock isn't as user friendly, or according to experts as reliable. The M&P shoots very soft and has close to match grade accuracy. I put 5K flawless rounds through mine then sold it - and I'll probably get another one, fantastic pistol.

Wow! Thanks everyone for your input. I think my decision has gotten even tougher now! Haha! I think my best bet will be to go out to the gun store and try them all out and make a decision. Thanks again :)

Says who?

The older G21's were like trying to aim a brick. The G21SF alleviated that. I own a G21SF an it fits me just fine. I haven't handled a Gen 4 but I heard they're basically SFs.

I shot about 250rnds thru my gen4 G21 without the optional backstrap attached. I now have the med backstrap attached and fits me just right.
I also prefer the textured grip of the gen4 vs gen3. IIRC the gen3 also has a "bulge" at the heal of the grip where the gen4 doesn't...which I also prefer. The larger ambi-mag release of the gen4 is also a nice feature. YMMV
