I am looking to buy two 9mm handguns for my wife and I in semi auto, i would like decent shooters, but because i want to buy 2 of them, id like to try and keep the price down arround 500$ each, and i am not interested in chineese knockoffs or milsurp. What are my options? Was looking at some of the Ruger handguns, but all of the barrels are under 4.13386" which is 105mm, and according to the rcmp website, that is the prohibited length.

well, your question is in fact : for 1000$ what 9mm can I have twice ?

hmmmmm not much choice, unless you go used .....well Norinco maybe ?

and I would not even let go my PX4 Storm or my 92fs for 500 each....)

I have 3 of the Ruger "P" series semis. I have not shot my P89 in 9MM yet but am very happy with the P90 and P944. These guns are out of production and are not expensive to buy used ($400-450). They were designed to be police service and are really reliable from what I can tell based on a written report(Massad Ayoob's Greatest Handguns of the World) and my experience. Accurate as can be too. I really love my 1911 but after using this P90 I have a whole different opinion of the 1911. If you want a good semi in the $400-450 range try to pick up say a P89 and a P94 that would give you the .40S&W and the 9mm to play with.

I guess it seems kind of dumb that I havn't shot the P89 yet so I'm heading out tomorrow morning to shoot it, wish me luck. I bought all three here on the EE and have had great success on the EE.

all good options, i pretty much get dealer pricing on ruger, i didnt realize the sr9 was available as restricted in canada. Just looked and it is over 105mm, so i guess its good to go. I will definately look at the other suggestions as well. Thanks fellas.

I just recently bought a remington 1911ss, and have not shot it either, i am not a huge fan of the 45 caliber as it is expensive to shoot, i just bought it simply because i love the 1911 and have mad respect for its history. 9mm is only 30$ for 250 rounds compared to 60$ for 200 rounds for the 45acp. So I completely understand what you are telling me :)

No matter which gun is purchased it is important that the significant other determines which one fits her hand properly.
My 13 year old daughter could not hit the magazine release with stock (Gen 4) Glocks without having to break her grip and twist the gun in her hand. Same problem with a 1911 type frame.
Tried the M&P 9mm kit with the smallest and medium size grips - and problem went away.
The kit was just over six bills and the 3 magazines/holster/magazine holder/magazine loader that came with it made it a very good deal.
Note - I dropped in the Apex trigger kit and her group sizes shrank by 1/2. She now outshoots her brother at the 20-30 yard distances.
