Hey gang, just a quick update on the Black Rifle Enthusiasts group. I had a chance to touch base with GT and he was able to fill-in some background details. Here's the short version...

Because there was a lot of opposition to any sort of entrance criteria, we left the group open to everyone. Interest far-exceeded anyone's expectations, and we had close to 200 members/pending invites within a very short timeframe. Unfortunately, because there was no criteria - we inadvertently let in some of the inmates from the asylum - and they proceeded to mass spam-report on the new group. This caused a lot of technical and administrative issues, and the group had to be shutdown to avoid impacting the rest of the site.

For those that were complaining about the "elitist" aspect, well - while not exactly running the asylum - the inmates sure did their best to torch everything (including themselves). Always nice to know that no good deed goes unpunished... Here's hoping for a BANHAMMER to the offending parties. A**holes.

I thought that those arguing against it were all about keeping the community together, not trying to crash the server and backstab members of the forum.

Hopefully the spam reporters are noted in the history and recieve infractions and are testicle tickled.

Jesus how bad did it get?
 
Will the section be reopened at any point, seeing as it was cleared up about the restrictions? I feel like the only people who need to be restricted are those who did the spamming. Trolls are not nearly so destructive.
 
I was typing a post up when it was shut down, I was wondering what happened.

The "REPORT" button on the bottom right was spammed
Anytime someone reports a post, the admins or mods assigned to that area get a notification, so they were getting dozen, possibly hundreds of pings for the same non-issue
 
For a brief moment I felt like I belonged....like I was a part of something.....


Now I've been relegated back with the commoners......
