Hello, I just came across this site, and looks real informative. I have a question if anyone would feel free to refer or help.

1st. I have a Mossin Nagant, and would like to attemp to put a scope on it, anyone know where to buy the side mount, and possibly have an instruction on how to instal?

thanks

You WILL have to have a bent bolt on your gun to be able to cycle the action unless you run a scout mount on your gun, I don't have experience side mounting a scope but I have done the scout mount with positive results.

Lots of videos on youtube are available for what you want to do tho.

Yeah i seen the front mount like u have, but I'd like to give the side mount a try. Just curious where one buys the mount?

By the time you get all the parts you need and having the work done, you may consider saving and buying either a repro sniper or a refurbished sniper that came on the market recently.

Joce is bang on. If you want to do it for fun than go ahead. If you are thinking of a cheap hunting rifle you might be better off just go and buy one. Having said that I bought a Rocksolid bent bolt and mount, ATI stock and a timney trigger and I am in the process now. I bought a Mosin off of the forum that was partially sporterized.

If you have the money, time and interest go at it and have fun.

Damn, the scope and mount is more than what i paid for the gun, did someone here ay there was a mosin with one already on it for sale?

I bought my 1955 m44 Polish a few years back. It looked to be unfired with all matching numbers.
I had no idea what it was other than I liked it! After becoming more informative on MN's I discovered the bent bolt (on mine) was not OEM. I think the polished "poker" is also an after thought.
I would never consider scoping my m44....but that's just me.

For a fun gun irons are fine. I used to be an irons guy until
I put 20 years of adulthood on my eyes; now for accuracy
or hunting optics are the only way to go. I used to shoot
500yd with peep sights and have no issues. FF 20 years;
100yds w/irons isn't easy anymore. My Moisin is in line
for optics.

If you absolutely must have a scoped MN it may be cheaper for you to sell yours and put the money into a MN 91/30 sniper.
If you're located in the GTA have a look at Al Flaherty's(top of the screen). They show one in stock for under $600

I'll go check my local gun smith, see if he'd be ready to help me out

He will probably be willing but anyway you slice it, its still going to cost you twice what paid for the rifle. Might want to post a pic of the rifle before you D&T too, incase you are about to hole something thats worth money.
