Nice! I'm on the go for an SKS collection. Been searching for an unissued 55/56 Tula and unissued 1953 Izhevsk for a while now. The later will be a tough one. The closet I got was a 54 Izze with x's on the stock, but no reinforcing bolt which I found odd.

Hardwood stock dont have reinforcing bolt on the wrist.

I have read otherwise. Sometimes a rife would get a hardwood replacement stock with the added bolt from an other rifle instead of the laminate piece. But, My source could be wrong, North Cape Publishing SKS book (4th ed)

and it was

If we take the SVT 40, was not unusual during refurb time to put a reinforcement bolt on the wrist because the SVT harwood stock was prone to crack on that area. I never saw yet a SKS hardwood stock fixed that way by the arsenal.

If you find a 53 non-refurb, let us all know! Mine is as close as I can find... all-matching metal with a "new production" arsenal-fitted laminate stock. There is at least one new forum member with a 53 non-refurb -- the holy grail of SKS's! I really like mine, it's in phenomenal condition, and has a cool super low serial number: "OP8"

Very nice collection. Only have one non refurb SKS and shes gonna stay in her natural cosmo covered state so that every once in a while I can haul her it out give her a good whiff and smell the freedom. Gotta love that healthy "red" glow too.

I have a sudden erge for borscht and vodka.

I love Russian guns and their supermodel women not the short fat ones.
I have a SKS and a mosin nagant and a svt-40. Hands down my favorite rifles.

I am on the hunt. I have only allowed myself to get 4 Russian SKS rifles. My goal is to find an unissued '53 or '54 Izhevsk then accompany it with an unissued Tula of same manufacture date. But, If I find an unissued 55/66 Tula first, I will be happy enough.

Weimajack has had plenty of unissued SKS's for sale lately, including the years that you're looking for.

They sure don't seem as easy to find in the local dealer shipments anymore. Last 3 crates I looked through were straight up shooters only. And they are going to start getting them individually boxed, which makes it awful tough for fiends like me to dig through a lot of them in a hurry.

No sympathy for you ;)

Nope. I talked to him already, the ones I want are all sold. I am looking for the specifics first, then the shooter. I should have become interested in SKS rifles a few years ago. I have seen many of these collector grade before but never gave it a second look. Same goes with the Yugo's, waited too long.

I have always wondered. Are the crates just a random mix of issued and unissued rifles? If so, I wonder how many collectors bought crates upon crates looking for the ones they want then sell the rest off.

Its a crap shoot - a crate can be full of non refurbs, refurbs, or a mix. 2 or more Izhevsks in the same crate seems to be a pretty rare occurrence.
