i posted in the optics section and didnt get too far...but a good start.
i have bought a Burris P.E.P.R -QD mount with rails on the scope rings...perfect setup to run a micro reflex on it :)

so originally i was going to go with a 1 -1.75 at the most to about a 6x optic... but that is hard to find...they all top out at 4x unless you want to jump to a grand.

so my options were for iluminated:
Burris Fullfield TAC30 1-4x24 556 reticle - $399 no tax - local
Burris MTAC 1-4x24 Ballisticplex CQ reticle $499 no tax local
Leupold VX-R 1.25-4x20 (unsure of the reticle options) $529 no tax local
Vortex Viper 1-4x24 $529-549 (@ sfrc) unsure of which reticle to pick and why..

right now im leaning towards the burris tac 30.. i saw it in the store and realy liked it, but if im going to run a reflex sight (and then pick a ok lower end one..i wont use it much but want it there) i can start at 2x optic as a starting magnification...which brings the Leupold 2-7x32 optic into play (or some others)
i wanted the VXR but the actual magnification 2.5-6.6x33 even though they say its 2-7x33.

then there is the bushnell elite 6500 which is sold out. it is 1.25-8x32 and has a multiX reticle and is only $372(anyone knows a shop with it in stock plese tell me...this is the leader i think)

any suggestions? its going on my long barrel AR...its a 12.5 lol... my vortec sparc will be going on my sbr....

i hate picking scopes..
looking in the 300-550$ range

Where is a bushnell elite 6500 1.25-8 only 372.00? That is an amazing price.

In your price range I vote for the vortex viper. Can't beat that life time warrenty. Too bad you missed Gagnon's no tax sale last week! They have it for 529 too.

I can speak on the TAC30 and Falcon Menace 1.5-5 as I have had both.

The TAC30 is a good optic for the price in my opinion. My only complaint was the donut reticle was a little on the large side, and the magnification ring was pretty stiff (on mine anyway). You can remedy this by getting a quick throw lever, but hard to find. Overall short scope not taking up a whole lot of real estate on an AR.

The Falcon has a lot of scope shadow I find, even set at proper eye relief. It is also about an 3/4" longer than the Burris. I find the reticle pretty decent though, and the glass is clear. I have kept this scope and mounting it on a AR style 22.

My favorite 1X4 though is an SWFA SS. Next to impossible to find North of the US border, but if you find one get it. Great glass, FFP, compact, but it is a little heavier than the rest.

It also depends on what you want to do with the rifle. If you want to shoot 3Gun for instance, a true 1X4 is best for that I find. A 1.25-4 kind of forces you to close 1 eye and take a little more time to place accurate shots. Or stick with your plan to run a small reflex sight for your up close work.

If your going for bench gun, then you can get what ever you prefer. More magnification the better probably.

Hope that helps.

You can't beat a Millet DMS 1x4x24 for $260 IMHO

Got me one of these from P&D, works really well for the price. However, if you do have the extra cash, go for the Vortex, they're higher quality. The Millet is a good scope for those on a budget.

the bushnell elite 6500 1.25-8 for $372 was at LeBaron. i just went there and they told me its a discontinued model and they got a whole wack of them but sold out months ago.
they said they wont be getting it back in.
i9ll probably end up getting the burris, but alflhertys told me they have new stuff coming in this month so ill check in a couple weeks and see what they got.
im leaning towards the burris scope right now...and i just realised i cant get the leupold now because it takes 1" rings and i ordered a 30mm burris qd mount.

on my 11.5 i use iron sights. i used a red dot at first but i dident like it. i now use a good set of iron with the rear sight being a peep at 600yds. i find you can hit 100yards no problem. what are you trying to do with you scope? what kind of shooting?

i dont like iron sights.

on my long(er) AR (12.5") im going to put the scope.
on my 10.5" ive got a vortex sparc.

i just shoot at a range, mainly off a bench.... im not dropping out of choppers and saving the world from zombies (this week anyway)

Ok let's throw a wrench into these options...
Elcan with a throw leaver I believe there is a 1-4 or 1-6 model (I think ide get the 1-6)
Or.
Acog 4x with reflex sight on top

Then I have to decide if I want to part with that kinda coin..

Burris M-TAC, the newer-ish TAC-30 re do over, has good reviews.

P and D has it with the Fastfire II and PEPR for a good price.

That is a good price...too bad I didn't see that a week ago, I've got the burris pepr on its way, so all I would need is the scope.
Only paid 120 for the mount.

Don't have to be jumping out of helicopters and saving the world to run through some more dynamic drills... I find it keeps it interesting, though some people are fine with just sitting there and shooting from a bench/static position

I'm going to be getting into diferent types of shooting drills hopefully this summer.
What I mean is I don't need something that costs a crap ton of $ because its what the military uses and it can fall from 100 ft and not loose its zero.
I do shoot quite a bit when I go out though.
Typical day at the range is 200-400 rounds and that's 2x a month

Got the perfect thing for you since you are money savoy unlike supper-snob blaxsun :p (*you know I got 2 rub that one in Mr. Locktite right? ;)*)
get an low power scope like a hi-lux or something like that. So you can have higher powerred magnifictaition then run an off set mount that will allow you to buy an reflex sight and mount it on that. For $600 you will be doing stuff that your Acog will do but unlike the Elcan you will not have to brake for a second to switch you power rating and hell if jerry michalak uses it you know it made the grade ;)

ive got the leupold vxr-zombie scope and i love it. cant comment on the red dot reticle but the green dot on the zombie scope kicks ass.

Does it take 1" or 30mm rings/mount?

I wouldn't get the zombie one but I like the vx-r
