There is really no need to remove the follower for cleaning, blow out what ever is in there with a can of compress air, and your are good to go.
That's what I figured. I just wasn't sure if the follower was stuck or if I was doing it wrong. But I figured the pin was stopping it from coming apart. Question answered!
Just wondering if you take the pin out it will hold and fire the full 30 rounds or whatever correct? Not interested in doing it just wndering if the pin is the only thing that limits the magazine.
No. If you take the pin out the magazine has a built in self-destruct mechanism to prevent deaths to children.
How exactly would a tiny empty hole along the spine prevent the magazine from functioning as designed?
