Actually $13.99 plus tax comes to $316.
I'm pretty good at math... I quoted the retail... folks such as yourself can add the tax... that was for the Winny stuff at Wally Mart... I no longer shoot it due to excessive FTF's... I pay the previously mentioned $250/1000 for Hornady XTP, which again is before tax... you can do that math again.
I ordered a Savage 93r17 TRR-SR the other day from WSS not sure if they have any more. Cabelas does have the TR model, same thing just without the rail and threaded muzzle. gotta love that Boyds Tacticool stock too bad we cant get them directly from boyds anymore.
I'm with 22 forever on this one! Buy a good, accurate target 22 and find out which quality ammo it prefers, and you will be properly set up.
While the 17HMR appears to be inherently accurate, it is not, and never will be, developed like the 22LR is.
It is easy to compensate for drop, but a flyer is unpredictable, and will ruin a great group every time.
I have 3 match grade 22's, and all will do the same as 22 forever has shown from his Annie.
These are gratifying [and repeatable] results. I expect 50M groups to be in the .1's and [.2's at worst]
100 meter groups at ½ moa or so are also quite realistic. I have a number of 5-shot, 200M groups that are under 1"

if you insist on buying a match grade 17 hmr. then you will need to look at Anschutz 54 action. Sako Quads, are also know to be among the more accurate 17's. less money CZ's work great as do many savages, although they are hit an miss. Limiting factor as has been mentioned is the ammo, not the rifle.
Do keep in mind match grade ammo that 22, and Eagle talk about runs as much a box as 17 hmr does. Those rifles will not shoot tiny targets with cheap 22 ammo.

Smallest 100m group I've ever shot was with an HMR (CZ) but I've owned a Savage HMR in the past too...love 'em. There are more experienced (probably more capable) shooters on this forum than I am, but I think the most direct route to tiny groups is a heavy-barrel HMR with a decent trigger. Savage was my pick, again. I know it's possible with .22s, but I think obscure (expensive/match) ammo and premium rifles play a key role in that. As for how I use guns~99% of my target "work" is done WITH .22s. If my .223/.22WMR/.17HMR find themselves on the bench...it's for a scope set-up or to test loads. (getting into reloading
