SKS-D value

Sounds about right. Sometimes they pop up for $350ish but they go fast for that price. Some people think theyre an uber rare, super collectible SKS variant thats worth $700 plus...

They're not even $400 guns. I wouldn't pay more than $350 for one. You're still just getting a five shot SKS but everyone's so hung up on the detachable mags that they overlook what an AK mag really costs here.

thanks i was in the right price range, it has nice wood and a bayonet comes with 2x 5 round mags (no banna mag).

I had one and it shot extremely accurate but had some feeding issues (had to modify all my mags)

I traded it for a cz 858 I added a bit of ammo but basically a straight trade

I paid 150 for it, then traded for the cz then used the cash to buy my target rifle... And that's the story of how I turned 150 bucks into a 1500 dollar target rifle.

I'd say 400-600 depending on condition/accessories if your selling. If your buying don't bother, you can load quicker with strippers

noticed no spot for clip on the bolt and it does not lock open read that is one of the differences. its a really nice gun doubt i will get a trade like you did. if i decide not to keep it I would like to do local trade or sale see what i am getting and vice versa.

If you already have it and didn't pay much for it keep it... They will go up more and more as people are desperate to say their guns take AK mags ... Try shooting it mine was the most accurate sks I ever owned

FWIW I have some Hungarian steel 5/30s do lock the bolt open on my D-Box. Not so with the Chinese 5-rounders. The Hungarian ones I have feature a cut out and follower design that keeps it open. However as soon as I drop the mag the bolt slams shut - and it takes some extra effort to work the release if I dont hold the bolt back. At least I know right away when it's out - helps in 3-gun matches (somewhat). I agree strippers work quicker, having had a couple of those as well.

As for price, ya 350-550 depending entirelty on condition & the number off mags etc.

then you dont have a "D" cos no mags will activate the bolt hold bcos it was removed.

This is the 5/30 that holds the bolt open. If this ain't a "D" model then what is it? I bought this thing brand new in the mid or late 90's I cannot remember. I have three of these 5/30s and they all hold the bolt open. I use 'em for three gun for that reason:

Here's a stock 5-rounder - I have six of 'em, none of these guys hold the bolt open.

As you can see, bolt doesn't stay open:

This is a 5/40 Round RPK mag, again does not hold the bolt open:

Here are three types, the one on the left is the Hungarian (so I was told) 5/30 that DOES hold the bolt open. Notice the difference in the follower

what you have is a chinese made SKS-D and all "D" have the original bolt hold system removed bcos space is needed for the AK style mag catch.

i have seen other forms of bolt hold like a pin drilled into the top of the carrier (after market).

what you are using to hold back the bolt is not a "bolt hold" , you using the mags follower and mag followers arent design to take that kinda pressure.

the hungarian never made SKS and certainly never made a SKS that accepted an AK mag so their AK mags was never meant to be use like that in a SKS.

besides when you remove the hungarian mag to reload, the bolt slam forward which defeat the purpose of a bolt hold.

note to NCBB : i should have read your post closer , you did say the bolt slam forward when removed .

btw, very nice looking "D".

I was just making sure i didn't pay too much for it. I will post pics this evening for those who are interested. I have a regular chinese sks wood isnt as nice but is accurate even more so than the cz858 I had. I haven't had a chance to shoot the D it yet, just picked it up as it was different and have not seen too many around.

at $350 it will sell, at $450 you will have tire kickers saying they will take it then disappear.

Ya sort of what I figured also - I agree the follower is probably taking some undeserved abuse

Thanks!

here it is for the curious. really not sure if i am gonna keep it it is why i was asking for info on pricing.

It's a nice looking rifle - only my two cents but I'd say keep it.

As folks have pointed out they aren't worth a ton of money, but they are an interesting gun. I saw no point in getting rid of mine, might have been different if I could have traded for an AR platform (fat chance) :)
