Hi everyone,
Any opinions on pros and cons of the Weatherby Mark V accumark and Tikka T3 tactical in 300 WM.
The rifle will be used for hunting and at the range. They are similarly priced but I have no experiance
with hunting rifles in general, I have had some milatary rifles, but I like the look and feel of these two.
If I can add another part to this: Is the Tikka Tac worth the $700.00 more over the Varmit model?
Thanks

I would never pay $700 more for the T-3 Tactical. I have both a T-3 Tactical in .223(purchased unfired on the EE for well below the new price) and a Stainless T-3 Varmint in 6.5x55, and to be honest, I prefer the Varmint because it is stainless. For the full price of the T-3 Tactical, I would go with the Sako 85 Stainless/Synthetic. I wouldn't even consider the Accumark.

stubblejumper what don't you like about the accumark?

I have owned two Mark V rifles, and I was less than impressed with them. Although they were by far the most expensive rifles that I owned at the time, they the two least accurate rifles that I owned at the time. Thankfully, I purchased both at a going out of business sale for a greatly reduced price, so I was able to sell them without taking a loss. On the other hand, I have had very good luck with the couple of Vanguards that I owned.

Does the better " quality" rifle equal better accuracy? I'd be surprised

I've owned both rifles more mk v's then tikka's I'll admit. All my weatherbys were and are very accurate as were the tikka's. The weatherby's just feel like a better built rifle to me.

I own two T-3s , a Tactical, and a Varmint, and both are easily sub 1/2moa for five shots. Neither of my Mark Vs would consistently shoot sub moa for three shots. The Tikka has as good a trigger as I have used on a production rifle.

Years back I briefly owned a Weatherby Mark V in a 22-250 and it was very accurate, fit great, nice craftsmanship. Only downfall was the trigger. I took it up to Wholesale Sports in Saskatoon and they gave me $100 more then I paid for it on the EE here.
Take what you read here on CGN with a grain of salt and hit up some other forums and pose the same questions. I find it helps me in determining what good and less then stellar.

Cheers!!

I have a tikka t3 left hand 6.5 and the damn gun is accurate. They feel cheaper made cut corners but the trigger and bolt are very very slick. One thing however is the damn guns can shoot. I went with a heavier zastava when I was looking for a 300 win. A 300 win tikka is just too damn light in that calibre. 6 and 1/4 pounds is too lite for a 300 win mag. Recoil will be just damn brutal.

the one thing to think about is the recoil lug on the tikka. its a piece of aluminum that fits in a slot on the bottom of the action. its not hard fitted. im alright with mine on my 7mm-08. i have about 150 rounds down the pipe, and the aluminum does show slight wear. i guess its better then the action wearing. and yes the tikka is a shooter :D

i would lean more toward the mark V with a bullet over 160gr in a mag case. that mark v action is built very strong all around. yes i do run a .300 wetherby mag in this action and love it also.

Thanks guys for the replies. Seems like they are both mostly loved, the Tikka more so though.
I am leaning twords the Mark V, there is one local but its in .340. I like the Tikka but the stock just
feels a little cheap to me. And I just noticed the Sendaro in 300wm......
Oh well I'v got time till income tax return time:)

weatherby is known to say 1MOA out of the box accuracy. owned both weatherby and tikka and no dout that weatherby is just built better quality in my mind. ( someone wont be happy with this comment)
How it shoots? My accumark 340 WM was shooting 1/2" @ 100 with reloads and cheap mark5 was shooting about the same. they both have gotten some glass bedding and free floating on them.
Tikka, Cheap plastic stock seems to hold the action quite well and own 300WM, 300WSM in Tikka T3. They both shoot well with some minor work such as free floating.

They both are very reliable rifles and accruate enough shoot to any distance you want. My personal "GOTO" rifle is 340 WM with 2.5x10 scope for those long walks in the bush.
I do use T3 300WSM with 165grains barnes TSX for sitting around for short and long distance hunt sometimes.

The Weatherby Accuracy guarantee is sub moa for the new Vanguard 2, but for the standard Mark V and Accumark, it is only 1-1/2" at 100 yards. Did you ever wonder why the much cheaper Vanguard has the better accuracy guarantee?

There are some Mark V "Range Certified" models that come with a sub moa accuracy guarantee, but you will be paying a hefty premium for the better accuracy guarantee.

For the cost of the Accumark, and in fact all Mark V rifles, they should be properly bedded from the factory.
