10/22 bad taste

I have owned two 10/22s and thought the first one was made "on friday" and sold it and bought a new one. The second one was just as bad as the first, FTE and FTF one out of 10 rounds, at least! tried all types and makes of ammo and still no go. Took it to a gunsmith twice for adjustments and new parts! Nothing helped, even loaned it out and still problems. Sold all my Rugers and I will never look back. I have to be the exception from all the GOOD I hear and read about Rugers but I will never take another chance on them. Am I the only one who has bought the rejects and all the rest are fine?
 
Other than hating the trigger which can be replaced I think it's a great rifle. Prefer the Deluxe with Walnut stock and if you can order it up get the Cattle Drive version. Well worth the extra for the wood carvings.

I am not comparing them to anything, other then price point out of the box. they are a platform to build on. Any entry level rifle will be reflected in it's price, regardless of the action.... some are better then others.
I had the feeling he was mentioning 10/22 Rugers.... You take a Ruger 10/22 and ad a Kidd and a VQ and a whole bunch of other stuff.... Yes it is still a 10/22... but no longer a Ruger.

I enjoyed my Ruger 10/22 while I had it. knocked off many Gophers in it's day.. it was the 1st rifle I ever owned and was hard to part with... as I became more experienced,my needs changed.

Boo I love my 10 22 there always in short supply when panic buying is happening. At one point last year ruger was behind 1 million orders ( not all 10 22 s but still). What do you use then, how the hell do you not like a 10 22 clips can be had almost anywhere, same with any replacement or performance part. What do you think is a better auto loading 22 ESP for the money? I like the hammer forged target model the best I've had them all but the t/d model.

I've never heard much bad about Rugers. I have a Stainless MKII, 6-7/8 Tapered barrel and love the thing. For the most part, they are entry level firearms, but they are well made and generally have very high reliability.

You understand ... just because it is entry level doesn't mean it is bad.
 
I have 2 10 22's and an SR22. They all work great. No problem with the factory mags, some issues with the mags I have. The Promag drum I have is a jamomatic, and my my Promag 25 rd mags aren't much better. I've had good luck with BC steel lip mags. I love my Rugers.
 
How many rounds did you put through it ?
Mine was like that until about 300 .
It's been great ever since .
Also , if you were using one of those crap plastic lips mags , throw it out . Factory or steel lips are the only way to go .
Mine fires any ammo I've thrown at it .
 
Sorry to hear the OP had so many problems with his 10/22's.

My 10/22's initially jammed, changing to the Power Custom extractor eliminated all issues.

The gun has an excellent design, it's sad to see that they didn't just copy the extractor's that work.
I think it's just a matter of poor heat treat, since I could see the wear on the stock ones.

Though I have a few other rimfires, the 10/22's are the most fun to shoot.
They would be the last I would get rid of, well, or the cz 452's.

Speaking of the 452's, they all needed a trigger job before they were up to standards.
 
Never ever had a prob with stock rotary mag however butler creek mags ( only one I own other than stock) if you bump the mags ( there's wiggle room) they f@ck up on ya aswell if there's a bunch of Debre on them ( powder residue ) ... Just my expierence
 
never had a problem with my $100 Remington nylon 66. I tried Ruger mags and after market mags in the 10/22. looks like Im the only one to get bad 10/22s
 
must just be you ive ran over 3000 rounds threw mine without cleaning using steal lips and mabey a hand full of ftf using federal bulk
