I have just purchased a Colt Anaconda .44 magnum and received with it several hundred pieces of .44 mag brass. I prefer to shoot .44 Special because of the softer recoil but I would like to know if I can safely download the .44 mag cases to give me a softer load.
Does anyone have any experience they can share? BTW I will be shooting a 240gr plated bullet.

Just be careful of which powders you use to load 44 Special in Mag cases. Do not use H-110.
I've heard of others being position sensitive as well, but don't have first hand knowledge.

There's another thread about loading .44mag stuff..

I use Alliant 2400 in my .357 Magnum. It has plenty of power to propel the bullet down range at a pretty good pace, and it gives out a nice fireball if you're into that sort of thing. ;)

H110 needs minimum loads or funny things happen. Been there and seen it.

On a lighter note I like 10-11gns of Blue dot for 240gn cast pills. Always a good time. ;)
