Beretta A400 Shell Issue

I have a less than one year old beretta A400 extreme. Maybe a case of 3" shells have been fired through it. The last week of waterfowl season, I decided to try 3.5" shells. But for some reason, when I tried to load the 3.5" shells, the action will not close (see pic), without slightly giving the action a push.

I have tried different manufacturers of shells and the same result. This also happens the odd time, after I fire the first 3" shell and it tries to cycle the next one....it gets stuck in the same spot.

Any idea, what is wrong?

Stoeger Canada and Beretta support are useless.

Pretty sure what is wrong and read about it on another site some time ago when others were having the problem but don't know what the final fix unfortunately was since the one I was firing at the time didnot have the issue.

No. Nor does any other post I just looked at but quite a few with the issue. If it was mine I know what I would do but I have been working on guns for years and if wrong so what I cost myself some money but don't want to suggest it to you being a new gun.
Have you had it to a gun smith yet?? Perhaps a change out of the carrier may correct it since not all seem to have the problem is it possible the carrier may be a bit too long for the 3 1/2 or the wrong angle. Just thinking out loud or even a 3" in a 3 1/2" gun if that is possible?? It works fine with 3" correct??

Found this on another site I visit after a search might be worth a try. Over 12 months old and still nothing it seems back from Beretta on how they are going to fix it. Funny part I have had zero issues with the a400 but all of my 3 1/2 are reloaded remington hulls so god knows.

Seems I have found out that only certain 3.5 inch shells work in my A400. Apparently the slight difference in length between manufacturers does make the difference in this gun. I personally have used only Black Cloud made by Federal and Winchester shells so far both which jam. I have been told that Remington are just a bit shorter and some say don't hang up. I have contacted Beretta and apparently they are aware of the problem and there is a fix on the way but I haven't heard back from them as yet.

Suprised no other a400 members have chimed in . Someone must have a better handle in this than I do Beretta's are not my cup of tea and I have but one and no experience working on the a400.

That's why I don't like those 3.5" actions. Not only they will misfeed from time to time, they will also fail to cycle lighter 2 3/4 target loads :-(
 
Of course you can file and polish the ramp or keep on calling Beretta customer service that was proved to be useless. The easy solution is to use 3" if you have to. The longer solution is to get rid of the jammer. Once a jammer -- always a jammer!

Tried several different shell manufacturers and same issue.

Beretta is aware of the issue and I am shipping the firearm back.

That is your best option. Please let us know what they find wrong and how it was corrected since this is not the last time we are going to see this problem here.. Wish we could have been more help. Good Luck:)
 
My Browning Gold 3.5" would do the same thing with the 3.5" shells. The problem was the shotshell hanging up on the sharp edge in the top of the chamber that is machined for the shotshell rim. A quick chamfer all around with a polishing stone on a dremel solved the issue. I also trimmed the shell lifter (carrier) by 2.5mm (in 0.5mm increments) and then rechamfered the inner surface to prevent the shotshell from "pointing" so high into the top of the chamber.

The whole new level of gunsmithing.

Still don't understand the benefits of 3.5" vs. 3". There is a certain gain in distance, something like 5-10 yards but that's where it pretty much ends.

Brand new $2000.00 I woudn't shoot 3.5" or 3" shells out of it. I'd put it in your gun safe and use your 870 instead. Just use the beautifully engineered P.O.S. "B" gun for pictures when your dome hunting.
