Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag Turkey for duck hunting?

WOW!!!
I guess this is a touchy subject to bring up..........
Didnt mean to start a pissing match, i was just looking for some help.

My apologies and we are sincerely trying to help you just cannot allow this BS info being provided by others to be out there to incorrectly effect your decision and that of others that come after you.
As I said the 535 to me is a better choice over the 835 but make sure it fits you. They are hard working guns that will go bang every time you pull the trigger
take care

Mine is the two barrel set since we have no turkey here but for the additional cash if I was in Ontario I would have went with the 3 barrel option

Hahaha! No worries...if you spend enough time here you'll witness lots of them! Listen to 3macs1 he knows what he's talking about! Buy the gun that fits you best, that is within your budget and that you like cause when it is all said and done it is your hard earned cash that is paying for it! Once that is done go out and shoot and most importantly have fun! If there's a trap, skeet or sporting clays near you, be sure to swing by and mingle with the regular shooters... There's a wealth of info and help to be found there! There's lots here too...just have to sort thru lots of BS to find it that's all! ;)

Thank you for your help.
I have handled the 835 and didn't find it too big. I'm a big guy so I don't see that being a problem.
One more question, I have read that the pump rattles a lot on the 535. Is that true and how bad is the rattle?
Please forgive my newbie questions. I'm just trying to some knowledge.

My buddy uses that gun for everything. Pheasant, ducks, & geese. He really like the short barrel, and i gotta say its nice and easy to maneuver in the blind. He tookoff the rear site, if yours is like his then its removable. He has no problem hitting anything. I agree that the pattern is all in the chokes. He had a hard time finding chokes... I think he had a 535, and ended up figuring out that 835 chokes fit it. Or maybe it was the other way around.

He has the pistol grip m4 style stock and swears by it. Im more of a traditional stock guy, the heavy shooting 3.5" shells are more comfortable with a full stock. The m4 style stock i tend to tuck my elbow down.... Sorta under my sholder. But when i use the full stock my elbow is out to the side, which puts the butt of the shotgun in a more comfortable spot. So remember, elbows out. Or your sholder will bruise.

Happy Hunting

Mine was real bad but like I said it was also one of the 1st 535 made some say they are better now but I don't know. Ducks would be ok but wasn't good for deer for me or you for turkey. The felt helped big time Just a consideration also of the 835 vs 535 if you want to buy an extra barrel the 535 are all over the place for a good price the 835 are not.take care

Wingmaster with wood, Express with laminate.

My very last response to you and your foolishness. You are either 10 years old or no I won't even go there.
Well Mr. remington you are talking the express which is a totatly different animal. Cannot buy a true wingmaster with ugly wood as you say and never was a wingmaster offered with lamintate.
Ok you seem to know the facts on wingmasters and wood. What wood was used initially and in what year was it changed and to what and what year was it changed again. Fill your boots and impress us

Read posts more carefully. OLDER WINGMASTERS... NEW EXPRESS.

You jump to conclusions too prematurely and let your emotions overtake the thought process, which is not a good burden to have if you're handling firearms... Just a though...

Sorry I lied now my last post. New express wingmasters now that is one for ripleys. If there was ever a chance one might think you have so 870 knowledge you just blew it. The new sportsman field ones are not wingmasters and not 300 new . They are dressed up express.let me guess you seen that on the internet on Epps site which is wrong

I don't know why it is such a touchy issue and why everyone could not express their opinion openly without offending anybody else.

I thought this forum is for everyone but it seems that only a few "chosen members" want to dominate the forum.

I have owned an 835 for two years now with three different barrels. I use the turkey barrel for coyotes and the rifled barrel in our primitive weapon zone and the 28" barrel for ducks and geese. Love the gun it has performed very well for me.

You just don't get it do you. No one cares how many posts you make if they were at least somewhat accurate. This is not a forum for sorry I should have done more research , it could hurt someone.
Dominate the forum you are a fine one to talk. Probally have the record with 100 plus posts in 24 hours.
Where is my bud you asked still here but you cannot see him since he has you blocked as well as many others have and I will be joining them. Have a good one

ss1980...It all goes back to some of us trying to make you understand that accurate info is what people are looking for...if you don't have that info (and you have more than proven you don't) then you shouldn't post it...or if you aren't 100% sure then say so. There's no shame in not knowing or not having an accurate answer for everything! We all learn something new everyday...most of us anyway...I'm starting to wonder about you though! LOL! For some reason you want to try impress people on this forum but so far you have only succeeded in alienating the very people who could actually help you learn a thing or 2 about shotguns and wingshooting. Gentlemen like 3macs1 and many others here, have more years of shotgunning experience than I have birthdays celebrated...I suspect you are in the same boat as I?!! (I'm 33. I hope I didn't make you too old there 3macs1?!! Haha!) The knowledge they gained can only be acquired a certain way...by shooting hundreds of thousands of rounds and not by searching GOOGLE! If you'd stop commenting and running your mouth without actual thought process for just 2 minutes, you'd be able to absorb the knowledge they are passing on to us, free of charge I might add, and actually learn something for a change.

Have a good one, too. A real good one :)

I agree with you on posting advice only if you're 100% certain.

But why did people get alienated? By me posting?

I'm new to the forum and I would like to participate. A lot! I feel excited about all of this. And few older members don't like me, that's fine. But me alienating them... That is definitely not my intention. The post count is the least of my concerns, too.

I read a lot, see new posts, read them too, want to chip in.

If that is really the case then why the heck are you continuously posting incorrect info? You just posted on another thread that shooting steel shot thru a fixed choke barrel will blow the gun up into little pieces. That is FALSE! You just posted a link about the Remington 887 to try prove that the Remington 870 is of the same quality it was 60 years ago on yet another thread. They are 2 completely DIFFERENT guns! The list goes on ss1980! Read the threads on this forum, ask questions (as many as you want) but please stop commenting before someone takes what you say seriously and it winds up costing them!

In older guns, that were not designed for steel shot and had, in particular, fixed full choke, the danger of blowing up the barrel is high. I have seen a couple of such cases actually happen.

As to 887, yes, it is very different than 870 but that indicates the overall quality decline with some Remington guns.
Talking about recent 870s in particular, there are multiple encounters of mechanical issues. Here are a couple of posts from real users:

Bad gun,September 16, 2012

Disadvantages: Performance, Quality
"Bought this gun last week and took it to the range today. After the first shot, the ejector jammed. Tried several times with different makes of ammo, and every time the same problem. Took it home with a spent shell still jammed in the receiver. I have owned Remington guns all my life, but this 870 Express has really left me soured. No more Remington's for me."

Not as good as they once were,January 4, 2013
By socalrider21 from CA(read all my reviews)
Advantages: cheap
Disadvantages: Performance, Quality
"I happily bought this gun because I was told from someone who bought one 30 years ago that it was a great gun that was affordable. But turns out, they aren't as good as they once were. I have had two different problems, 1) Sometimes the shell would expand and jam the slide, and 2) I had problems with the shell coming up from the expansion to the port, and would jam up. I could maybe live shell expansion since it was never a huge deal. But when trying to reload the second shell and it getting jammed was just frustrating. I bought an alluminum follower and heavier duty spring to see if it fixes the second problem. But I wish I would have just forked over the extra money for a better gun."

Bahahahahaha! Winchester Universal or Super Target ammunition was the first problem in both reviews and operator error very likely for the 2nd issue of the 2nd review...I'll let you google those issues hopefully you will retain some of what you read!
