I'm toying with the idea of selling my CZ SP-01 tactical to fund a STI GP6 purchase. I also have a stainless 75B (so I'll still have a CZ) and had an interest in the GP6 for a while now. Would you do it? Interested to hear some feedback.

I dont know if I would do it. The SP-01 is one of my favs, may not be yours but has a lot of good going for it pricewise.

You seem to have alot of pistols anyways IM Lugger, why not just save a few more bucks and buy a GP6 and keep the CZ?????

I do like it. The stainless 75 was partially a gift from my fiance so I'm 'stuck' with it lol. I like the grip texture better on the SP-01 and prefer the decocker to a safety on the 75.... But find the Tactical kinda muzzle heavy and a little too heavy in general for a 9mm.

Saving up wont work unfortunately; too many priorities right now and spare cash does to fishing stuff lately.

I enjoyed shooting mine when it wasn't broken! They have a fantastic trigger and reset out of the box, and the recoil impulse is completely different from conventional pistols.

Sti and Freedom Ventures were fantastic about warranty fixes, but I completely lost faith in the gun.

Have they fixed some of the problems with the design?

STI dropped the pistol. You would be better looking at the newer grand power line up blueline is bringing in.

+1 for blue line
Can't say I would part with the sp01, but love shooting my gp6...... Really want to try the 6-c.. Been a great platform for ipsc drills, never failed me, mags are good quality, no sign of wear in any place yet. This is a keeper, just can't let it go......enjoy ...

The cracked STI hammers seem to be specific to thier first run. I'm told that STI switched to a more ductile vs brittle steel for the replacements. I'm not aware of any GP machined hammers failing.

Early models all had investment cast slides that were finish machined. Some of those slides seem to have had metalurgical (sp?) problems. (Don't panic. If yours has 5K plus on it and hasn't had a problem, I doubt it ever will.)

All current slides are CNC machined in house.

They also changed the mold for the plastic grip frame to re-enforce the area around the trigger guard. At some point in the near future the 9mm grip frame will switch to the Mk12 version which drops the Walther style take down. Instead, it will use a Glock style take down lever.

Another update on the current models is a change to the area of the frame insert under the barrel chamber. It's cut more square and a bit deeper, and the gas hole is gone.

Check with Sean, as he may still have a few of the later models in stock. My GP6 has 10k on it now and shows no wear. It's a Mk6. I would have no qualms about buying another or a Mk7 from Sean.

For the Grand Power badged guns, the new production K100 Target is what I suggest people look hardest at. It's got the upgrade parts many people will want out of the box. (FO front sight, adjustable rear, and the big mag button)

I'm going to the X-Calibur for the longer barrel and sight radius. The lighter trigger will be a bonus.

Hi cannuck223,
I knew this thread would peak your interest, you are without doubt the gp6 expert....... How do you find he Excalibur? Was it worth the extra $.........thanks.

Not in my hands YET. I'll let Ryan broadcast the date they are expected to start shipping.

Count on a full report when they arrive, and some interesting news I can finally share...
