S&W 629 4.2'' .44magnum

Anyone not liking their grips I just got in some rather nice S&W grips ;). These would dress up your S&W rather nicely.

Portion of the sale goes to the NFA and CSSA.

so who has these 629s in stock? someone mentioned Frontier, but I dont' see it on their website, so probably sold out. anyone know?

I personally think S&W just went through their inventory, hand-picked all the 4" models that were actually 4.2" and shipped 'em North :p
I'll predict that we'll not see anymore of these after this batch, for 2013 anyway.

I called several shops in different provinces (aside from P&D, Ellwood and one in Quebec) and none were expecting any 4.2" models this year. That was enough for me to jump in now.

I can guarantee no machinist qualified to make guns for S & W would be out 200 thou

Actually it's been known to happen. A few of the 4" S&W custom shop engraved .44mag made it up here and were actually 4.2", I believe P&D had a few and they sold fast. They've been known to market 4.2" as 4" in the past. ;)

I hear what you are saying, but keep in mind we are talking about revolvers, not drop-in semi-auto barrels.

A revolver is all about barrel indexing which is why there can be variation at the end of the day. Think about it, when a barrel doesn't index, the barrel gets machined until it fits. So with that in mind, if a barrel were to index with little or no machining right at the start, there's definitely a chance it could be 4.2"

There's no need for me to push this idea as I have owned a Ruger 4.2" and the barrel WAS NOT 106.68mm.

Mine came the other day and I snapped some pics. (I'm far from a photog)

My (non-firing as of yet) synopsis: Great feeling weight to gun, grips are ok at best, I do think they did a better job matching the finish of the bbl to the frame than on the 4.2 686's. I like that they didn't do full under lug- kinda harkens back to the mid 50's, Keith et all. Cylinder locks tight! Easily the tightest of all my revolvers but it is BNIB.

Hmmm, should I get one of these Nitron blackened by Murdoc............

Good job S&W, N.S. etc for making this happen! Thanks from the north!

Bollox, thanks for the pics.

Nice to see some decent pics of a product I recently purchased .... essentially, sight unseen. Now, to shop for grips/stocks.

These 629s are listed on Roger's website ww w.shootershoice.ca in Arrowwood, AB.

Great gent and great prices.

Nice pics bollox. Im still waiting on mine, should have been here on the 15th. Got to love Canada Post. I have already ordered grips from hogue, both rubber and wood for mine. Looks awesome. I got 1000 rounds waiting for her. Cant wait to try that beauty out.

Range report. I have about 150 rounds through it. I found that I was hitting left often with it. They way this was corrected was by changing trigger finger placement. Once I found this out I was able to keep about 2-4" groups at 25 yards. It balances well and has a smooth trigger. The trigger was very heavy but once I backed it out the screw a few turns it was even better. I shot from 180 gr hp to 300 gr "bear loads". No noticable point of impact change at 25 yards. I am not to happy with the grip. I find it too thick for myself so I will get another grip or two for it.

Thanks for looking. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Got a chance to shoot her today. Was great fun! Recoil is essentially the same as my 5'' (as expected)

Just factory AE 240JHP's and Rem 180 SP's today as I haven't reloaded 44 for a while. Quite the muzzle flash from the 180's!

Grips are lacking, in fact, they actually they caused a pretty nasty pea sized abrasion to my strong hand thumb. I don't have ''office worker'' hands either.

Gonna source some grips and prob send one of these up to Murdoc for Nitron treatment.
