Sweet grips GunGuy34, I just order up a set as well, but no finger groves for me. What wood did you go with?
I was on the fence between the rosewood or the pau ferro. I ordered the pau ferro, plus picked up a set of round to square mono to give a try. How do they compare, size wise, to the factory set?
I guess I can add my opinion on the stock grips. They suck.
GunGuy34, did your original grips also have slop in them? No matter how tight I tightened the grips there was wiggle room; as in, you could rapidly twist your wrist (while holding the revolver) and hear "knocking" of the frame inside the stock grips.
I would say that based on this, S&W expects owners to replace the grips. Yes, they are that bad.
I believe ya brother, just didnt think it would be that fast, lucky you wish i was in Edmonton, mine will be shipped next week, gun looks like a bulldog for sure.

Finally got my 4.2" 629 s&w from ellewood epps! It's a sweet addition to my smith collection! Just need nicer grips.
Are there any 629 4.2" with full underlug? I am not a fan of them without I dont think.
Nope.
It is puzzling why S&W did that: Why produce a 686 4.2" with full underlug, but not a 629 despite considerably heavier recoil?
I just did a rough photoshop with a full-underlug. Not bad, I'd have bought one in either config.
Both look equally nice, with the partial having more character whereas the full looks very ordinary.
