500 S&W Ammo

There's a somewhat limited scarce amount you'll come across every once in a while. Not only fairly scarce but expensive as h**l. Where abouts are you located? Your best bet would be to inquire through a major retailler or speciality gun shop. And/or, get in with someone that does reload.

get reloading!

I think that will be the best option for me. what other calibers are a better value to reload? i also have a 10mm Glock and the ammo for that can be pricey

Even 9mm is cheaper to reload than buying factory. Especially if you already have a press to allow for doing the other calibers. Granted the cost saving isn't as great but it is still around 2/3's or slightly less than the cost of factory ammo.

Click on the links to Budget Shooter Supply at the top of the banner ads and add up the cost of the bullets and primers then figure out how much it costs to do 50 and compare it to what you're paying now. Your 10mm is the same size as the .40S&W bullets.

And ANYTHING in rifle caliber is MUCH cheaper to reload other than perhaps .223 And for those it's more like the 9mm where you save money but you are "only" saving about a third over factory. For the other calibers you'll cut your costs down to 1/4 to 1/3 of factory EASILY. And even more than that if you shoot anything exotic.

Note that his price on 100 looks like it's a mistake. His price of $130 for 500 suggests that it should be $26/100. Even so that makes it 26 cents for the bullet, 3.2 cents per primer and up to maybe 10 cents for powder depending on what you select. Add in another nickel towards the brass which with .500S&W will likely split after 10 to 15 reloadings and you still are only spending 45 cents per reloaded round. That sure beats 3 to 4 bucks per shot. And at that rate of saving you can see that it'll take almost no time at all to pay for the press kit and dies.

i been buying 500 for 60 a box. needed the brass for reloading

i bought 1 box at 63+tax then realized it's cheaper to buy brass, even at bass pro ($60 for 50) which is over priced it's still worth it.

reloading AND CASTING for the 500 is a must, unless your rich, or shoot it twice a year.

I wonder if the .44 magnum had this problem back in the day? will this ammo ever get cheaper?

not unless it catches on like the 44 mag.

that being said, my costs (not including brass costs as i don't know how many firings i will get, i'm hoping at least 15-20) for reloading with cast bullets are .20-.25 cents a shot.

if you can get free lead, prices will drop even more.

Pretty much any caliber that begins with a "4" or larger, you should be reloading. (Your 10mm is a .40 ;))

I have a 460V that I reload for. Factory ammo runs ~ $2-3 a pop. My reloads, using premium bullets (not setup for casting...yet) is ~ $.70 a shot.
