.303 Martini

the hardest part is finding a real british martini enfield and not one of the khyber pass fake that have flooded the market these should be deactivated on the spot as they are not safe (they also come in .577-450 so watch out for them) best look at the stock fit

they are out there but not a easy find IMA said they left all the martini enfields back in nepal i guess it may have something to do with NJ gun laws

go to british militaria forums they are real good help with this and the guys there can spot a fake with a few pics no problem
 
From what I've seen prices are similar to Martini Henry prices for similar condition.
There are Martini Metfords and Martini Enfields, depending on the barrel used for the conversion.
Ask about bore condition. These are old rifles, and erosion/corrosion can take a toll.
 
I picked up a No. 4 bbl'd one for 350 with a couple box's of reloads and dies thrown in.
Works great but the condition of the wood is so dismal it hurts your eye's to look at it.
Shoots great though, it's the ultimate truck gun. I load to lighter with a fast powder to get a good clean burn and not a massive fireball from the muzzle.

With the exception of the Martini Henry MkVI, later called Martini Metford MkII, all the service .303" arms were converted from .450" calibre.
However private companies made large numbers of .303" Martini arms from new production.

Fitting a Lee Enfield barrel is an easy way of making a shooter from a ME/MM that has a ruined barrel.
It is helpful that the Brits standardized on 1-14 threads early on.

yes i know that the barrels fit but what seems iffy is the stock the biggest problem with the .303 martini enfields/metfords is the khyber pass fakes being sold as the real deal these where made for the have a gun to get a gun program over there when these where sold off and brought to north america they where passed as the real deal there is also some in .577-450 but these are less common. the stock fit is poor in most cases only thing they may be good for is converting to something like .22lr or .410 shotguns as they dont last long in .303 or .577-450 id just deact or make a cut away model out of them

now there is real martinis also coming out of afghanistan too so you really have to read up on the subject before you get into these guns
 
I have a Peabody Martini that has been rebarrelled in .303 using a Ross barrel. Bore is beyond new and perfect. Wood is also really nice.

I really like it.

The original bore was toast...which made it worthless.
 
Not quite all, there were the .40 calibre ones. But providing THREE different service cartridges was found to be silly, so the .40 cal ones were rebarreled to .303 before being issued
