Ok so I was BSing in the gun shop the other day and I now feel the need to play with pellet guns again. I'm looking for a 22cal pistol that does not take CO2. So pump or break or whatever else exists that isn't a disposable canister. Also looking to have it in the 495fps range-ish. Price range is kind of open but not looking for a $1000 target pistol by any means and preferably decent quality/durability.

I'll sift through the options given and figure out what direction I want to go with it when I have a bit more info on what's out there. My preliminary research has turned up the Webley Alecto, Crosman 1322, and the Benjamin Sheridan HB22.

I like my Webley Hurricane though they now seem to only make the Tempest made in Turkey now.

.177 or .22 cal. pellet versions
Spring-operated, break barrel
Single shot
400fps .22 - 499fps .177 (REALLY!)
2 pounds
6.89 inch steel rifled barrel
Adjustable sights & trigger
Manual safety
Comes with manual
Strong Cocking Effort!!

Interesting. Not seeing it in 22cal anywhere though. Is it only available in .177?

Yes, only in .177. It is a genuine target quality pistol and is a good concept well executed. Yes, I own one and will never sell it. It came with spare piston cups and tools.

If you like to tinker a bit and to customize your "toys" a Crosman 1322 will get you started for under $70. Shoots hard and straight right out of the box. Parts and accessories are endless and easy to get.

Damn that crosman looks so much better in wood. A buddy of mine growing up had one in .177..it was a riot but I have to admit I hated pumping it up and as such stuck with a break open rifle. Well...once I upgraded from a single pump bb/pellet gun that did I think 330fps or something. Going to 495 fps was a huge jump in killing power. :p

Anyway guys I was up too late last night looking at various retailers and bit the bullet on a Webley Alecto from Hero Army Surplus as they had it for $250. So for about $295 with taxes/shipping and a can of RWS pellets I have a new air pistol on the way. Really the debate boiled down to this one and a HB 22 for myself as I got thinking of what I want to do a bit more and came up with sort of a list of what I wanted to do with it. Backyard squirrel control, possibly small game hunting(grouse, ptarmigan, rabbit), back yard trigger time, indoor trigger time(let's face it...it's winter), and maybe, just maybe, target shooting at some point. That last one is a big if and in my sleep deprived state made the choice for me(and finding a good price). And 3 pumps...3 pumps is pretty awesome.

So happy with that, but really in hindsight the HB 22 might have been a better choice due to the target shooting being such a huge if as I already have a hard time finding the time to shoot rimfire silhouette so the price difference is hard to justify unless I find myself shooting this pistol a hell of a lot. Haven't shot an air rifle since I was a kid so ya...not sure on how much I'm going to actually use it as I don't currently have air gun shooting in my schedule of s**t to do.

Ah well...I'm sure I'll have some fun either way. :D

*edit*

Also if anyone is interested in a Tempest I found a place out of the US(ships to canada) that sells them for $200. (airgundepot)
And for the Baikal IZH 46m $425 at airgunforum.ca/store/

Freyr...Congrats and post some pics and your impressions of it.
I used to hate pumping my 1322 multiple times per pellet. Now, I find that 3 pumps works great for indoor paper punching @25ft. It's actually quiet enough so the wife doesn't get all excited. Pump it up 10x and the .22 pellet really thumps hard....then the yelling starts :)
The Tempest is tempting...always wanted one.

Will do. I've held the left hand version in the local shop the day I was BSing about air guns(they got it by mistake...guessing it won't sell fast). It feels like a nice air pistol of high quality polymer. Granted I don't overly like the aesthetics of trying to imitate a firearm but one takes what they can get(I would prefer traditional air gun styling). The grips are a target grip and rather large/bulky but comfortable enough in that target grip kind of way. I would prefer aftermarket grips but it seems the only ones available are from france and about 100euro or so shipped(edgrips.com or something).

I'll update this thread in a couple weeks when it gets here and I've had a chance to shoot/chrony it.
